basically everything is the same as last year except move less popular characters 5-10 slots down to fit in the new characters
youmy still 1st marisa 2nd raymoo 3rd or whatever komeijis then eosd and all that
same with music and works
there was some 19% increase in character voters this year but the questionare results are not out yet so we can't see what that actually means

for some unknown reason youmy suddenly gained 1000 more #1 votes than last year (as well as 1000 more than marisa who was in 2nd place)
marisa got 700 more
and raymoo gained maybe 400

also it's pretty minor but murasa went up like 20 places due to touhou 17.5, coming september 2025
kanakp on the other hand went from 78th to 76th :(
other stuff I noticed was eirin went up 10 places (maybe due to coronavirus or fumo) and joon went down like 25 (gift gonna lose some buxx)
minoriko went up 10 and shizuha went up 20 for unknown reasons
sannyo is 137th, one of the lowest windows characters in the poll possibly because she resembles a handful of other characters who are also unpopular
all the unpopular characters like the fairies going down 10+ places is too sad to bother mentioning so I will move on
I guess the interesting part comes from our results this time around

I seem to have been hit with a spell of incompetence and am currently unable to find where to snip my results
so I shall request that someone else do it and tell me how instead :)))))))))))
if this isn't a thing that can be done I will just write it in text later

DUDE im so slow getting a bit crushed by my classes and also decision to make a flash game within the span of three days i straight up missed the entire voting period woke up the day after remembered it and realized i was too late
ill read all the posts here and post my votes from last year tomorrow right now its late

Youmu is sort of unexpected, I guess she's been featured in a lot of content in some way?

I'm not complaining though, Youmu has a very cool design. The half-ghost aspect is creatively represented and she's a skilled bladeswoman/gardener. Loyalty is a good quality, too

youmy has not shown up in a major role in any official media though I've heard a few people say there is some alternate color version in lost word that is "really powerful"
I don't know what that means but it seems lost word players at least might have a reason to like her suddenly
though I have no way to know for sure I wouldn't expect more than a handful of touhou fans to actually play lost word and even fewer would also participate in the poll
otherwise I have not heard any good reason for this sudden spike in first place votes

she is pretty fun with the

though many suspect it's voter fraud
and when questioned with her winning in 2020 people looked back and began to also suspect those results
now there are very many people looking at results from previous years or for other characters trying to prove her innocence or show that she suddenly gained 500 and then 1000 first place votes with little good reason

it's been almost two weeks with no word from the official tohovote twitter but it seems speculation about this has pretty much died due to a lack of new information
so I guess we shall continue to wait and see what changes

over a week in the making lets go aeon finally goes to the other computer to find the files and post. was behind in half of my classes: now i am not

so situation number one: voting fraud. heard about it from perldrop but man someone really wanted ghostgirl to win. kinda surprised it hasn't happened before even with their secure votesystems

as always so happy to see the fortune teller beat out so many of the named cast, both windows and pc98. the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. it looks like last place out of any dude with any reasonable amount of screentime goes to sara.
for a newcomer i think chimata placed pretty high, makes sense, she's a cool one. most of them sunk pretty far down, though

very surprised miyoi didn't score higher with her having been the effective protag of lotus eaters for a while, maybe it's because she's manga-only

sucks that the same homies always get the top spots, they're cool but one day i wanna see some kinda michael or medicine randomly take the gold

i couldn't even find most of my results from last year so i'll just make some new ones

I am guessing the gensokyo vote gap is due to everyone recognizing those uuh
10 or so most popular characters and as a result they get more popular and more fanworks
the cycle continues and that's how you end up with youmy's 3000 first place votes as opposed to sannyo's 10
poor girl cannot even afford a chicken dinner with the rising vote inflation (40k voters as opposed to last year's 35k lowers the value of the vote)
with miyoi in particular though she was an antagonistic character for like 3 chapters and now she's just the "get me another beer" girl unlike kasen's obvious spoiler for 45 chapters or suzers who reads those sinful books forbidden by her parents
a sad case of villain turned side character in her own manga, forced to wander the 90th places for all eternity

and on the opposite side the one recognized artbook ZUN made I think a single song and that one pofv story in has a 10 inch long giant ass box with a fancy cd case that exactly matches the image printed within (and it's placed in vertically so it only looks good in the box)

after only three and a half months, the recounted votes have finally been released
for some reason a few weeks to a month after the original recount tweet rumors started going around that the votes already were recounted and nothing changed but those were false
who knows how that was even able to spread because it would imply either nobody checked or there were fake new results but eh here's the real deal

the results of the recounted votes are...
nothing changed! except now it's so late that nobody even cares about it anymore
that "nobody cares" includes me so I'm literally only going to compare top 10 and the things I mentioned last time I was here


pretty much everyone just lost 50-100 points if they were in top 5 and the rest are so minor it doesn't even matter
considering how suspicious youmy's results have been in the past few years this absolute lack of any real notable difference fails to even be noteworthy enough for anyone to care which is why I have seen a total of zero people who actually want to look at the changes other than her and shizuha (ok a little while after making this post I found ONE guy who cared to look at the differences in results and saw tsukumos and yamame dropped 8 spots) and the only way I found out the recount finished was through reloading the twitter daily
it's not like the popularity poll people can create an issue to solve to make it interesting but this was really not worth waiting for at all

shizuha went from 77 to 93 but then again it's just "unpopular character is even more unpopular"
I guess this can fuel "voting fraud" jokes for the next week assuming everyone didn't already make the joke three and a half months ago when they expected this to happen

i'm looking at 憑坐は夢と現の間に　～ Necro-Fantasia. where is the "sits". why not translate yorimashi. what is up with that. i opened 15.5 and beat the first story mode just to unlock it in the music room just to find out that this was not tasofro's fault. no idea how to find whose fault it is on the thpatch so i'm keeping you all in for detention until someone confesses

that i already have, lemme go over what's up with it.
so we start with the romanization for visibility's sake: yorimashi ha yume to gen no aida ni ~ Necro-Fantasia
yorimashi. yorimashi?

ah, yes. yorimashi.
i'll go with "vessel". doesn't have every part of the word's meaning but it's better than the nothing current translation does.
apparently the mashi is also the kanji for sitting, so that might be where the "sits" part of the translation comes from
"ha" is a particle, ignoring it because i'm not good enough at japanese to articulate what it means but it is part of a functioning sentence
"yume to gen", "dream and reality". simple enough. so far we're at "vessel [unknown] dream and reality"
"no aida", aida is space, no is possessive, the space of dream and reality. considering we have two targets i'm going to say it's "between". "vessel inbetween the space of dream and reality"
and finally, "ni". now this is the most important part.
mostly because it does not mean very much. "ni" is also a particle, kinda indicates that something is going on with a location. i'm not one billion percent on it but i know the vibes and i ALSO know that you are not ending a sentence with ni. you need a verb after it to say what is going on with the subject and the identified location.
yet there is no verb! from there we just get the "~ necro-fantasy" part. it is an intentionally unfinished sentence! i think
so: it oughta be translated unfinished. we don't know what is going on with our subject (vessel) and our location (between the space of dream and reality)
thus: "In the Space Between Dream and Reality, the Vessel- ~ Necro-Fantasia"

anyway thats what i put in seventh place. lazulum i humbly request your review on this translation because of the chance that none of this is correct. the hyphen and then the squiggly is a bit awkward, but that was the best way i could think of to convey that it is cut off

You're exactly right with 「夢と現の間に」, as for 「憑坐」, the second character is not even in the Joyo list (it's a rare one). Looked for an explanation and here is what I found:

It has a few different meanings so it depends on the context which I am out of the loop on. What it says above is:
A person used as the representative object of a divine spirit (basically "possess" or "inhabit").
A divine spirit called on by a shaman to speak (some kind of divine message) using a woman or child.
Dolls have also been used to this end. Afterward they are thrown in the river though.

i guess the "vessel" that i used might not be the best. maybe "medium" or "envoy"? i put a bit of thought into it partially because i'm planning on using the song at one point in a game of mine, so good to have the details ironed out.
