touhou project eighteen, touhou kouryuudou ~ unconnected marketeers

rumors of upgrades? equipment? all very interesting

set to drop as a trial in less than a month from now, and release in full a mere two months after that. very quick from announcement to release at least for any touhou i can recall. some people are saying it'll release first digitally, a departure from the normal comiket sales and now steam a few months later but very welcome for us who don't live in japan and also comiket probably isn't as popular recently due to the virus

the iridescent aesthetic is incredible and looks so nice especially in the menus shown

also man i think zun's character art this time around is on point, best stuff in a while. marisa isn't shown off in the screenies but looking forward to seeing her getup

very interested to see how zun takes the shop for this. it could be like len'en 4 in which you purchase items between runs, but with the counter displayed right under the power it could be even between levels, more roguelike stuff. cool either way, and the last time zun borrowed a len'en mechanic it worked out pretty well and had a unique twist so i would wager this will be just as good

Always nice to see Zun's art gradually evolve over time. He got Sakuya's hands right this time too.

Didn't know the trial would be dropping so soon, hopefully I can set aside at least a little time to try it out.

Still have to play Len En, let alone 4, but I like that it appears ZUN is taking cues from strengths featured in games his fans made. Reminds me of Fallout New Vegas's team looking at the most popular mods for 3 to get ideas of what to do.

two (one because of time zones) days left until trial drops. i eagerly await the scramble of checking every website it might be on furiously for 45 minutes until somebody has a download, and then not playing it at all while still checking every website for the translation. it may not be released in english but touhou is nice in that there are so many translators ready to just go ham at any time
usually i just go ahead and play as soon as i download but i figured theres no harm in waiting a bit longer especially with the new shop system. unfortunately i cant rely on my japanese knowledge when its life and death in danmaku

also, zun dropped a pic of the disc early.

maneki-neko youkai, supposedly. there are quite a few entirely different cat youkai, huh?

is she a boss? an until now unmentioned playable? a shopkeep for whatever the shop system is gonna be like? rinnousuke may be out of a job in fangames quickly

people always make these bingo things with vague predictions based on trends from the more recent games for when a new touhou drops so i have made one. and then i saw a way nicer lookin one. heres both cant wait to fill em out. (i really hope marisa's shot type has changed)

I have not played game in like 
five months
so I got game over on every stage normal mode somehow lol
game is not that hard maybe ten desires difficulty or something but it's been too long
I still beat demo though there are three new characters no new midbosses
he c/d keys are used for using and switching between items so now it's more than shift zx
items are separate from bombs
I tried using the mallet card and it just kinda
swiped at enemy and got rid of a few bullets
I guess items are a minor thing less than a bomb but more than normal shots
cards are collected during the stage and I also chose a different card from the mallet but I don't know how to use them so I don't know what they do
it says d to switch item but it just stayed mallet
also I didn't hear any graze noise rip graze noise

we got mike

koish in kappa gear

and not yorihime

it's got the musics and such stage 2 and 3 theme are nice
I almost thought stage 3 was gonna turn into snow halation because of the year 2017

marisa is still the icon she has not been exiled from gensokyo contrary to the belief of mister bingo board number one

basically yeah it's touhou


I only just realized how awful the snips were I tried to stay under the 1mb limit and ended up going from 1.2mb to 250kb
I just found out many of the items are passive or give a one-time effect like extra lives or money so that's probably why
also apparently press esc after buying an item to get infinite items

not-so-latest news: full release coming on 05/04, less than a week from now! cannot wait to find the latest cheese and play on lunatic.
and as part-theorized part-confirmed before, touhou 18, for the first time in the history of touhou, is premiering on a digital retailer. if the other games are anything to go by, it'll be a solid 15 usd, 1540 yen, or for the more frugal and vpn-owning of us, 180 argentinian pesos (converts to about two bucks). oh yeah, did you know you can make almost any game exponentially cheaper on various platforms including steam by buying in argentinian pesos? crazy

game seems to have been released on steam about 10 minute ago but not part of golden week sale
I don't think my 3 dollars and 50 cents are powerful enough for this so if you find who stage 5 boss is send here

yeah we got blue aya

apparently she is leader of crow tengu but not lord tenma
so we got leader of forest kappa and leader of crow tengu and they definitely are not koish and aya wearing fancy clothing

there is also clown vomit lady


almost everyone seems to despise this design because well 
she looks like a box of mike and ikes
I already like her because anyone who goes out wearing that has balls of steel and gives not one rat's ass
she has the ability to remove ownership of your property aka the bank when you are poor

most of these designs are kinda strange
I can't say I really remember who was in wbawc either but based on the quick character description translations and stuff I saw the game should be interesting


like we got magatama grandma who will teach you freikugel and made reimu's yin yang orbs 
and her stage theme is named mine of izanagi object (ZUN mentioned the music cd in the description for the track very cool) 

I have heard people say the gameplay is big improvement so it seems game is good overall

Blue Aya looks pretty neat, I like the background and design

Had to look up Mikes and Ikes but I can see what people are getting at. I don't mind the design too much actually.

The third one is the one which will need to grow on me a tad. Feels a little bit of a blend between characters, kind of Koishi jammed with Flandre and Eirin. Just my first impression.

it is out and it is very cool
i purchased and played first day, suffering immensely with my good friend mike "michael" gotokuji until i finally got a crazy 1cc with 3 extra lives and now i am on extra
and man all of it works so well. from the rainbow aesthetic to the shopstuff it is all slick. one thing that hurt a bit is that you can equip two items instead of one at the start of a run only after you've already cleared the game once but hey one item is already pretty good considering how powerful they can be

blue aya has painful spellcards but is pretty cool. translation is not out yet but from my limited interpretation apparently she is a fancy ol daitengu. not exactly sure what that really means aside from "makes rules" or "is cool"

rainbowgirl stage six is rad, i don't know what people are talking about. she is grooving with a cool cape. everybody who has a cape in touhou is cool, if sumireko and okuu are any examples

and magatama girl. instant recollections of many an ace attorney case, shoving those things around as evidence. she can make some kinda dangerous gases from what i figure? maybe thats the extra boss' doing but sanae was coughing and stuff in stage four. no idea whats up with her ability to throw yin-yang orbs since that hasnt happened since reimu in imperishable night

]Stage 4 boss: Tamatsukuri Misumaru___Genuine magatama craftsman (magatama: the jade beads she wears)
Race: God
Ability: producing magatamas
magatamas can contain and copy souls, memories & abilities, but she has nothing to do with the cards; she's investigating the incident just like protagonists do
she is pissed off by the fact that blue aya and centipede girl are over-mining kouryuudou, which may cause damage to the environments of mountains
kouryuudou is a good source of the Izanagi Objects necessary to produce magatamas, yin-yang orbs and stuffs
in the conversation w/ Raymoo, she also mentioned that Raymoo is the successor of the yin-yang orbs she produces

Stage 5 boss: Iizunamaru Megumu___General of Crow Tengu
Race: Daitengu (Grand Tengu)
Ability: manipulating the starry sky
she wants to have fun & make money w/ the card trade system, so she turns to the rainbow girl and make use of her ability
by doing so, only those who trade cards in the market can get the cards with full power; otherwise, it will just remain plain papers
but at the same time, the rainbow girl is also gaining power, and may hence pose a threat to the tengus

Stage 5 midboss: Kudamaki Tsukasa___Evil white fox whispering in ears
Race: Kuda-gitsune
Ability: entering the weak part of one's soul
best fox girl, but is actually the real bad girl
it is her whispers that cause all the troubles

Stage 6 boss: Tenkyu Chimata___God of Bona Vacantia (ownerless goods)
Race: God
Ability: making things lose ownership
rainbow girl's ability is kinda interesting
here gives an example that it is hard for things to lose ownership totally; if u throw stuffs away, rumors will have it that they’re abandoned by "someone"
but the only exception is a market, where goods can lose their original ownership completely by being sold thru it

however, nowadays ppl tend to trade outside markets, which results in a flood of ownership and therefore weakens her
this is why when blue aya comes to her to establish card trade system, she set up rules that only cards traded thru the market may carry full powers
she is in fact making use of this chance to regain her power

[according to conversations w/ protagonists, she and blue aya make the cards w/ the dragon pearls (literally, dragon balls) from kouryuudou directly, without using the power of magatamas, which proves that the jade girl is not involved]
[considering what we see in stage 4, it seems that magatamas, yin-yang orbs and dragon pearls are essentially the same material, and may even relate to the Izanagi Objects in the Hifuu Club series]

Ability: eating dragons

This is the theme of Tamatsukuri Misumaru.

A song composed according to the image of confronting a mysterious person deep in a dungeon, one you do not know if it's an enemy or an ally. Sth like that (laughs).

By the way, as for the Izanagi Object that jumpscares you, I actually have a music CD named also as such; please consider buying it if you feel like to. After all, it is still a mysterious substance.

stage 4 is a mine which is why sanny is coughing
I'm pretty sure people wear masks or something in mines because it sucks down there and also gases and dust/dirt everywhere


also what is game difficulty
people say it's good but I heard almost nothing about difficulty
I heard someone got a no card LNN already but the one difficulty comparison I have heard anywhere so far is that a typical playthrough is around the same as wbawc and a no-card is basically same as not using the beast spirits or watever
