東方剛欲異聞～水没した沈愁地獄, or touhou 17.5th, gouyoku ibun, is the newest game in the series and its second demo is out! well, if you're reading this at least a couple hours after i'm making this post. technically i think this is the first public demo and the other one was only released at comiket, but stuff travels fast.
travels fast, but development has been slow. the last update or any info regarding this was about a year ago when that original demo was released, it it's understandable because the game looks really, really good. tasofro helping out again, but it's a totally different artstyle than any of the fighting games and i believe is the first touhou game to properly support 1920x1080

the game itself is notable for a couple other reasons as well. six kanji in the main title, kanako is playable in the new demo, and it plays like a sort of unusual platformer-danmaku thing. it's a bit weird to start out and there's no english patch yet as the translator team decided to wait for a more complete version but i made some very brief documentation a year ago on how it works, although that might change in the new demo

got any strategies, cool runs, secrets? post them because i still don't get how it works fully but it is cool to play and i will try the new demo when it is possible by the time the reitaisai stream is over hopefully

I saw playable kanako and kogasa before though I didn't find any information on whether game is multiplayer
every time I tried downloading first demo binbows told me it's the virus and so I couldn't open it or something I forgot what happened so lol in a few hours I will be able to try it

I only saw a few bits of gameplay in the kanako trailer and the beginning of the kogasa and yuugi fights because I wanted to go into the game mostly blind but it looked pretty neat
hopefully it's multiplayer man because playable kogasa and kanako is very good
kanako got demoted to sanae's heavy attack in 12.3 so this is time for comeback

i do not think it will be multiplayer but if i tell my pal "hey man i wanna mod something thats made in c#" maybe such a thing would be possible in the future

windows can be rather annoying but i have spent a lot of time learning how to beat it into submission and run whatever i want without interrupting with cortana or the like

kogasa right now is not playable and is just a boss but maybe that will change
been watching reitaisai and they've had more of the touhou lost word game than anything else and my blood boils at the concept of a touhou gacha game that ignores the spellcard rules and focuses on a namable protagonist

if you wanna wait for the translation for most complete blind experience i can tell you when the guys whip it up or if they decide to wait another version because i am in their discord server to get the speedy translations and also because some of them are pretty smart code guys

ok well that is quite sad though I have seen character modding for soku and there was that whole wii online thing after the servers shut down
in worst case scenario wenn gacha game takes over the whole 2hu and ZUN himself becomes a non-voiced paid .png there may still a chance for playable online kogasa #1 choice best game if any of those people do that stuff again hopefully
also I saw moriyashrine took down the first 17.5 demo or at least the bookmark went all 2D161/2 when I checked earlier thinking the second one already came out or something
did I miss something or is that not really much a relevant thing

i think some people who actually went to reitaisai have it already let me check around and see if anybody has a new download

if zun was turned into a png all hope is lost for he cannot drink if he is a png and he cannot make games if he is starved in such a way
i'm counting on lost word to drop off in popularity but i am also waiting for fate/grand order to drop off in popularity so maybe not a good gamble

i would also like to end this post with what i just saw in the reitaisai stream which is a bit irrelevant but this can double as reitaisai thread while we wait for the new demo

many people have touhou cars here and while i must admit i would not drive in many of them some just have super rad graphic designs, especially the yuyuko one but the highlight has to be

I clicked on the stream an hour or two ago for like 20 seconds and there was

I clicked on game livestream to see what was happening in there and I saw the not-parsee stage one SA boss doin spider stuff
and lol now I just found out she is spider I thought she just had a weird design or something
also the second stream I think it just turned back into two guys talking again lmao

I dunno when demo: part 2 will come out but if it takes too long we still have yuuka cbt coming out in a few days to satiate us so it will be quite fine

yooo i saw the remilia shoes too, apparently they are "gaming shoes" which i do not understand and i can't imagine intentionally wearing shoes beyond playing dancegame but rather funny

apparently reimu fights kogasa in stage two and marisa fights spider girl yamame and both of them fight yuugi in stage three
still checking in often and nobody seems to have uploaded the demo anywhere but it is a short matter of time. maybe they will release full version or at least give a date for it around winter comiket

counting on yuuka cbt to save us as well, apparently dev got in trouble for half a moment because steam does not fully understand how touhou licensing works despite having a similar system themselves that let people make things like black mesa but they are still learning

basically the only discussion I found about reitaisai anywhere at all was on /jp/ though they say nobody has uploaded the demo and also they removed windows 7 support and kanako is not playable yet
some guy just uploaded a mediafire link saying to try it though I don't have any way to do a virtual machine or whatever in case it tries to install bonzi buddy or some desktop animals or whatever bing bar garbage trojan virus rubbish and I only have one device capable of running windows 10
so lol I am just gonna try and use it and if I don't respond for a few days then my stuff got all messed up

editnamba1 ok I don't have virus yet it seems and I can confirm at the very least the character selection screen has marisa
I shall try game now though I don't even know the controls so it will be quite crusty

editnamba2 alright I had no idea what was going on but I can tell the game is definitely gonna be single player
the link works if you rename the files to anything in english and I ran a virus scan and nothing showed up so it's probably fine
I played easy modo and got to stage 3 with reimu and stage 2 marisa before losing a life
I don't exactly know how the controls are supposed to work because jumping is z instead of up and it seemed that z is also to dash so unless I did something weird then I don't think you can move and then jump only diagonal jump
definitely controls are very different from either fighting game though so I had a pretty difficult time finding how stuff worked
I remember hearing people being confused about how the water works but it seemed pretty simple and I had a lot more issues trying to find out how to jump and attack and stuff
also marisa's controls seemed kinda strange compared to reimu controls
there's no dash attack type thing and she uses projectiles instead so it's easier to hit the enemy during the uuh

if you get the timing right but since I didn't really know what was even happening at all she was very difficult to use
also unlike reimu she can't move while using the turn into sponge and absorb floor water mode thing so it was harder to regenerate health

image quality is garbage because I had to resize and snip it like 3 times to get it under 1mb and now it's 500kb lol
I'll just try and play again tomorrow so I don't get the garbage sleep

the touhou translation guys are already working on windows 7 support which is nice
moriya shrine uploaded and i downloaded although the game has pretty specific launching conditions, at least on computers like mine. requires:
- all directories leading up to the game must not contain a space
- to be run in japanese locale
- to be run in administrator

but hey, the game ran after that. i booted up the game and there is a much-appreciated tutorial because until now the only way to practice moves was to hope you didn't get hit while fighting marisa
it is a weird platformer because there is no jump and z makes you just fly in one of eight directions, and you can do it twice before having to touch the ground again
it looks like they updated some mechanics substantially and marisa can perform
well i don't quite know what to call it

attacks are slightly directional like smash bros but they can also autocombo into some things, i think. i actually haven't played really past the tutorial yet because it took me a bit to get it running and then i ran out of time but i will probably try again later today
since it's a platformer, i'm also obligated to play the hardest difficulty on my actual attempt. in the last demo i had trouble beating yuugi on the default and only difficulty but now it has options and i am counting on lunatic to not disappoint

I am quite interested in the format of this one, it's shaping up to look quite interesting. Certainly something new for the franchise. I will read up on all of the details before too long and post more here I hope.

Just catching myself up on the thread, whenever I get the chance to play Touhou 17.5 I'll at least give it a shot and the Remilia Shoes are some pretty cool looking merch

i have cleared the demo again and i have learned something very valuable. marisa is almost always my main over reimu because marisa is better at ranged than reimu, and danmakugames are ranged
but i have never had great aptitude for danmakugames, and far less for fighting games. i am very good at platformers, and those tend to prefer a more close-range approach, even when your main attacks are projectiles
now marisa here? yeah, she shoots well. can deal lots of damage in a row, throw potions to hit the whole field, but compared to reimu's now absolutely unlocked melee power? insane, insane
this is a very loose game. you can kind of just input whatever when it comes to attacking and it will work out because just about everything puts you in a graze state but reimu flows with it very well because she is always moving in the direction you input, and all of those can be chained and repeated. for some attacks i just stopped using z because i could navigate the air fine with the up attacks. very much cooler than the demo as well with the water fantasy seal. i always had trouble landing those in hisoutensoku because they were so slow, and they have always been a bit drawn-out in their bomb form as well but this is a no-nonsense clear some bullets deal good damage attack. combine that with the fact that you can hold c with no restrictions all the time with reimu, while marisa has to stop and hold it, and it works very well. marisa's water spark thing is neat but i had trouble using it when i needed it as it didn't seem to be able to be stored without getting hit

maybe it's just because they've worked on reimu longer than marisa but she is the de facto way to play i think, although both of them are worth trying out. different bosses and the like. even if marisa is less radical it is cool that she plays very differently
also spongelevator you said you could regen hp? i was able to in the old demo but now i have no idea how, i've just been using all my water for the fantasy seal and water spark things

lazulum and peachtreat good luck with the playing, kind of weird controls but not impossible to get used to

yeah reimu is definitely a lot easier to play than marisa
I do not know if they'll change marisa's moveset or controls in later releases but being unable to move while absorbing water and having button controls significantly different from reimu's at times makes her very strange to use
projectiles are nice though it definitely isn't worth trading off movement and the ease of using water

yeah I was able to regenerate by just absorbing water for long enough
I would use reimu and just absorb liquids until I am max percentage of water
and I forgot exactly when or how it worked but I just know I'd hold c for a while after being max percentage so maybe you regenerate health when at 100% I do not know
while with marisa I have to just sit there and either cancel out of the water or take hits so she never reached a high percentage and I could almost never make use of regeneration

I am hoping in full release they separate the jump button from the graze and whatever else because I found the controls to be very difficult compared to either fighting game

unfortunate that its taking a bit but delays are usually a good thing for games and its a fully new engine that has to be finished. hopefully it'll drop in may when 18 does for real and we get two full touhous at the same time
