and out of them, five-seven can use hand axes and typically since none of them other than astrid ORKO they end up using like two full hand axes per map
I didn't intend on using like three paladins and a flier (two flier) but eh it happened and all of them use axes now and that shit can let me feed kills to uhhhhhh
ok there's nobody left who needs to be fed kills but it used to let me do that because 1-2 range and high damage
contrasted with binding blade's 45 hit hammers this game definitely favors them axes

staves do not appear to be able to cure sicknesses (I'm assuming this is chronic sickness)
in gameplay they can heal stuff like poison so they might be able to heal something like a common cold I dunno
when looking through sacred stones supports because wynaut
it seems this garbage support reveals staves can heal scars (unless this whole thing is just japes and not only the other half) so probably it's just any wound of any age but mainly only stuff like wounds and bruises
I'm assuming staves can't heal really bad stuff though because otherwise largo would be playable in RD
honestly I wouldn't be surprised if fire emblem doesn't have doctor doctors at all and it's just staves or medicinal herbs
also while not really related you said "magic" once and that reminded me of canas supports like the one where his brothers failed to learn dark magic and starred in an episode of veggietales

and then that mention of canas's wife reminded me of how nino uses tomes but she can't read so she just like

in tellius the tomes are in the ancient spaghetti language so mages have a basic knowledge of it in written form to be able to cast magic
also no clue how exactly tomes work all I know is they are necessary to cast magic and also using it drains some power from the book each use (an empty tome in genealogy is "drained tome") which is pretty strange

ledges are kinda cool but man RD just uses them to make the horses go one way and the foot units go another

for some reason in this game it seems every time there is a recruitable laguz character and you kill the guys they are with you lose rewards
in this case ulki talks to naesala and then naesala talks to reyson and gives him the knight ring if you didn't kill any of his ravens
30bexp per raven that escapes though at this point in the game everyone's probably promoted anyway but the knight ring allows for honorary mage knight and honorary valkyrie torgod (especially if he has both celery and boots)
that's right man you are missing out on the ultimate 10-move canto siege tome-using speedy offensive and defensive valkyrie sage knight (I did not get boots but I got the rest)
also wait what you didn't give nephenee vantage until ch20 and she was still your best unit
everyone always says wrath+vantage+two range=tomato soup but I gave her all that shit and all she did was smack one guy in the face with her noodle arms for 9 damage, get hit to very low health, and then fuck off so the hand axe crew can clean up the mess
rinse and repeat for about eight chapters until oscar has finally grown up and nephenee loses her niche of "at least she's not oscar"

after jaffar I've wanted to use assassins in every game they exist in
and every assassin other than jaffar turns out to be absolute shite
I heard silencer on PoR volke was not good but I thought "eh how bad can it be nobody else wants this scroll anyway"

highest crit on a knife is 10
highest proc rate if stiletto+capped skill is 12.5% on an enemy with 0 luck and does not work on bosses
this makes man cry
ike can proc kill 100% of the time by equipping ragnell
RD did do something cool though in making volke have a skill cap of 40
innate +25 crit as a skill
stiletto has 20 crit or baselard has 15 if you want that and when paired with gamble (there is room to put gamble now) we're talking like 90+ crit on your average enemy with high hit rates so silencer is almost a coin flip now

I was thinking about how silencer has been nerfed to hell over the series from going to "crit/2, crit/4 on bosses, doesn't work on the final boss" with assassins using swords (killing edge) to "skill/4, has to do at least one damage to activate, doesn't work on many/all bosses" so I checked again
and it turns out
radiant dawn is when it started being based on skill and not crit
meaning it has a 20% activation rate at most due to the cap unless resolve (which was also nerfed to be below 20% health)
volke critting is just straight up more reliable in every way and because of baselard's 18 might and 15 crit as well as assassin having a higher strength cap and equal speed cap to trueblade, yeah...
only reason people say it's good here is because you get it for free
well at least jaffar makes that shit happen :(
if you have not used that wrath I would say to heavily consider keeping it for ike so endgame isn't boxing ashnard in with paladins and healing for like 45 minutes
some guy made a guide on how to beat him without wrath+resolve because some people just could not do it
no idea if it's actually that problematic but I don't really care to do it again because I've heard ike does effectively 3 damage per turn unless supports+nasir+reyson
this game continues the series standard of "piss easy final boss if prepared and absolutely awful if not" except preparation this time is unspoken kinda like how fe4 does not tell you to train julia and if unpromoted lv1 julia goes up to julius with naga we get what's called "funny" (also a similar situation of seliph doing what was it, 5 damage per turn with tyrfing after healing?)
radiant dawn is probably the only game in the entire series except for three house where you really really really should not ironman it
not because you won't have enough units to finish
but because the balance is so comically bad that if your weaker guys die instead of being trained up, every single part past part 1 is gonna be a stomp
stat inflation up the ass (we're talking bases AND growths) so the strongest units give not one fuck and the moment you finish 3-13 you've already won
and when I say that about the balance I am not joking
you can throw haar at every single chapter and he will clear it and go right back to sleep
move over fe7, THIS is the most fail-proof game in the series
instead of one gotoh, you get FIVE
there's even a sixth new game plus gotoh who literally cannot be damaged by the final boss
also if it's a true ironman (garbage) then if miccy gets hit once she will explode so that aint exactly spectacular
at least loy can take one hit until midgame
also yeah this game's cast
surprisingly nice
initially I saw the designs and could barely cobble together a team of 14-15 units (which is apparently too much for this game with its 11 deployment slots) but after playing I like probably 80% of the cast with one major exception being lethe (fuck you lethe)
and this actually brings me to supports
those things are actually hand-picked supports
even moreso than the usual GBA stuff in that it puts just what definitely works
according to this probably-correct image, there are but 68 support pairings in PoR out of 46 playable units
three conversations each and we have 204 conversations total
contrast this with binding blade's 429 (over double) or fates's 3123-4164 (3-4 conversations per pairing so between these numbers) and it's pretty clear why people say PoR does it best
and as a result of these lower numbers the writers have time to make lengthy and higher quality conversations
also building supports by bringing two units to the same chapters is a nice system
only issue I have is this
serenesforest.net/path-of-radiance/characters/supports/most supports take at least 7-8 chapters to reach A rank and you even get horrendous ones like titania and ike's 26 chapters for an A support
because of this it's probably the slowest support system in the series even compared to GBA because if you make an effort to build supports in GBA they are not gonna take 8 chapters to reach A rank unless you LTCing
other than that though good shit cast and good shit supports system (base conversations are very nice too) but man this actual quality integration of supports as a main mechanic lasted 1 (one) game

before speaking of this ordeal
the new music/player/enemy phase sound effects are so over the top lol it is great
always nice when the game changes the music when shit gets real
anyway
took a long ass time
my first attempt went down the toilet when I realized I needed rolf to recruit shinon
but second attempt and on that's where it gets bad
I wanted to steal them siege tomes
but there are two siegers too close to each other
shinon is also nearby and rolf needs to talk to him
but if I don't go quickly then the ravens start stealing all my shit
second attempt died when I left ike in the range of two siege tomes and nobody could rescue him
after this I decided to just have wolt go right out of range of the non-shinon enemies and he'd use a pure water to survive one bolting or blizzard or whichever one he was in range of and then rescue after he talks to shinon
third attempt was kill when I accidentally dropped ike next to wolt so nobody could rescue wolt
and after this point I decided to just not bother with stealing the siege tomes
after that it became much easier
I got all the shit but the siege tomes but it was sad times
also it was at this part the game says directly to not bring jill in the chapter with her dad
so it turns out it aint an orson situation or anything like I thought it was

also two deployment slots go to making the crows or ravens or whatever go away I don't remember which of those it is
a third slot went into having mordecai smite ulki to talk to naesala on turn 2 and then rescuing mordecai so he doesn't kill the bird to the right
naesala talks to reyson and finally, torgod
afterwards one raven attacked an enemy warrior and died in the scuffle
birds may be a pain in the ass but that one was a trooper

days of putting four units into a diamond and trying to dance all four with lalum but failing is OVER
this chapter was the part that really feels like lategame now
everyone's promoting and the music is changing and mastery skills are activating all the time
very nice

but now that I have a dancer (especially with like 8-9 move+canto+work for four units at once) it was really easy and I got all the shit and full bonus EXP because the map is also too large for reinforcements to actually reach you quickly unless your team is ike+brom+gatrie and nothing else
tauroneo is here to be the third armor I have no idea how to use and brom is already almost benched
why all the cool armors gotta be here instead of in 3ds where pair up makes them actually work (at least benny is cool)
also a comically easy 1-range ena who is weak to bolting ha ha ha what you gonna do about it

there was a 75% chance titania would not immediately fall into a pit that turn and guess who missed
