that's what they all say. i look at en.touhouwiki.net, i hear touhoutubers talking about it, i look at the title screen of the game itself, "phantasmagoria of dim. dream"

but what does that mean? what is the "dim." in "dim. dream"?

the common assumption that i have ignorantly lived under this whole time is that dim means "dimensional", which makes sense given the dimensional stuff going on in the game, and i'm still keen to accept it, but i can't find any reference to it in official materials. there is even a song in the game called "dim. dream" that doesn't have any reference to what "dim." actually means, even though there would have been the space to write an unabbreviated name

i can go on moriya shrine and see it written as dimensional dream but there's no explanation as to why or anything

i have reason to reference the game and i will not settle for anything less than the perfect citation. at this point i'm almost ready to say that "dim." just doesn't have another meaning. it's a dim dream.

HOWEVER there are many other cool possibilities. theyre handing out fan theories like dimes on this site

by the way, dim is the antagonist of that unscrupulous new manga, and this is why he has been said to have "been there all along"
anyway it's just a full sentence

if dim meant "dimensional", then maybe in another dimension dim would mean dimensional and that would be correct, but that requires the original dim to mean dimension for other dimensions to exist and therefore there is no origin point to this false extension of word and it must not be true

and you see, "Dream..." at the end?
it's ZUN sending out a foreboding message, instilling dread within his audience with this tired remark, having almost given up and telling them to just dream, to just imagine the horrors of Dim, who cannot be fully comprehended (this is why he seems not to have shown up normally in the new manga, he's actually been there the entire time) and hope and pray for the day Dim will no longer torment gensokyo with his story-ruining powers...

man can you believe zun would punctuate the first sentence (phantasmagoria of dim.) but not the second (dream)? thats messed up, cant believe anyone would do that

regardless i am very concerned about this "dim" fellow. everybody i know is turning on me. i just wanna save blue kogasa BAM she's evil and DEAD, i give one query into what dim is and WHOOSH they are harbinger of death

ZUN did not major in english we must cut him some slack, he had believed a period at the end of anything makes it complete so he put two more to make sure...

yeah everyone is turning on you because you accidentally picked the dialogue options for the alternate route and now blue kogasa is evil and dim has been corrupted past comprehension
and since dim carries death everywhere he goes, whether it's the death of a character, a dream, an idea, or an actually worthwhile and not boring as hell manga, he will certainly kill the part of the story that lets kogasa pass on, a never-ending torment in the cycle of life and death, that kogasa maybe should have, like, joined myouren temple or something to escape from BUT SHE DIDN'T because DIM killed the guy who made that idea up first and it didn't get put into the game as a result
anyway if you see dim walking down the street or in the best buy just look away from him alright just pretend he doesn't exist I know it may be hard because everyone deserves a chance but dim is irreDIMable he went from Dim Dimmadome in part 1 to DIM in part 3 that's how you know he's gone too far

after shikaisen is professional assassin (then what's an unprofessional assassin...?) which is a pretty cool class 
sadly I'll need 1.625x that to reach shinigami, the best rank (not dim dim doesn't go file paperwork and row boats and run visit centers in hell dim KILLS he KILLS)
I remember one day a long ass time ago I went sorting members by post count to see every rank and thinking there could be missing ones
