yeah you gonn have to grind supports and stock up on killers and shit because lol in this game
people don't buy killers because of their crit
people buy killers because they have better accuracy and weigh less than compared to most other weapons lmao

ch21 and 22 are some actually good shit so overleveling is gonna make those a curbstomp in probably not a good way
also sacae will become babby easy because nobody will be able to damage any of your generals or fae assuming they could in the first place and all the peggies will be promoted by then so they can just outrun unpromoted nomads and it aint pain no more
basically I aint tryin to stop you though is it really worth it? (don't do overleveling kids this is your brain on overleveling (cracks ostrich egg))

on hard mode roy would get even less EXP on account of his already being terrible on normal
even if you got roy to 20/20 (which would never, ever happen due to both how late his promotion is and how not worth wasting your time on he is) he looks like this


he's not a glass cannon he's just a fuckin snowglobe 
absolutely unusable
even with the binding blade and its 16 might he's only doing like 6 damage to any non-manakete enemy and you see a whopping what
like three manaketes from the time of his promotion to ch24 when everyone pulls out their legendary weapons except they melt when mages anyway (tfw sophia takes roy's single niche)
and as I found out after my playthrough you can just whip out the divine weapons anyway because you aint gonna use up all of them in ch24 not even close
maybe you can use him to pwn a couple horsies in the first few chapters but past that he's the meme unit to end all meme units

the ballistas are there initially but there's really no time for you to take out all three of them and shanna won't be able to ORKO probably anyway
also depending on whether the ballista is on a mountain (rider can't get off) or on literally anything else (rider can get off) she could just straight up be killed anyway if no delphi shield since you can't reliably kill them in one round
worked in genealogy because they can't ever get off but here it varies and is usually not worth it in place of just having someone take the hits until ammo is out
also in some chapters ballistas are quite literally unreachable without warp and the riders also have shit like a red gem or orion's bolt on em lol

treck is the worst in the game and noah is decently respectable but worse than the christmas cavvies that you get six chapters earlier
treck is kinda like cecilia with "ass stats and growths but great class which makes them still usable and decent enough"
so he's still a cavalier->paladin but he's the worst one 
if you use him sadly you can't see his gonzales support but you can see his juno support which is a fair trade off
everybody likes treck even though he sucks so if you got a place on your team for him (remember deployment limit typically averages around 15) I'd recommend just because treck

I think turning it to hard mode after sacae literally only will affect ch21 and 23
because 21x is warpskip and in ch22 the difference between normal and hard mode zephiel is quite literally one hp I shit you not it's true

since this game has rerolling three times on growths even niime gets +1 res usually so overleveling will probably result in bad times of monke dying in a single hit

my issue with the awakening sprites is I don't have a mega giga 3ds XXXXXL triple deluxe so I literally can't tell what anything is when zoomed out

ok I guess after like 110 hours of fates I can very vaguely make out what most of this shit is
so some sort of miracle magic is happening~
or perhaps it was due to this but for 10+ hours a day due to awakening chapters taking five goddamn hours a piece
I don't know what fidelity is but I know what a fish filet is
after looking up fidelity yeah each unit does have a unique sprite and it does look nice when I'm actually able to see it but I need that shit zoomed out so an enemy three spaces outside of my sight range doesn't cause me to lose for the eighth time
also I think 3d looks like ass a lot of the time and I really do not see why this series decided to go 3d at all

I don't know what batallions is is it like medallions
is that what they call those potato circle things
if not I don't know what medallions are either
anyway I use rescue and pairup in allllmost the same way
to put two units in one and to move shit all across the map
rescue lowers stats because it can get you out of shit situations and pair up raises stats to allow you to reach certain stat numbers but either way I can slap two units together and make them give who they're holding to another guy and another guy and another guy until I have successfully made deke emulate fe1 marth warping to the boss
none of the gba games appear to have particularly amazing stories though the only one I played I thought was actually anything more than "the thing that makes the game move forward" is genealogy which is the one game where you are directly punished by the story being good by having the maps be pain

honestly that one battle before dawn instance is the only time I have disliked a siege tome
usually it's either too weak to kill anyone but strong enough to give an "oh shit" OR it's strong enough to kill shit but on a nonmoving boss or something and I check all enemy inventories anyway so I aint gonna get surprised
when I got bolting in fe6 and actually got to use that shit that was amazing to get to do what the enemies do all the damn time and just explode some fucker from 20 miles away it was epic

honestly most GBA maps and 3ds maps took not too far from the same amount of time other than the exceptions like awakening's pain or GBA's bigass maps
in 3ds I always play with animations off because the animations are so long and the only good one I remember was shura's spinny shooting and usually those take me an hour a piece which lines up with GBA when animations go off
honestly not really sure why I mentioned length I think I meant the physical size of the maps or something I suppose but I only mentioned the time it usually took so eh I dunno
one difference was having to retry stages in GBA while fates never had me doing that shit probably because I was a normal mode scrub but then again fe7 was my first before I even knew what raising up units was and fe6 is fe6

GBA has patches that let you see the unit ranges in the same way as 3ds apparently
never tried it because never really cared to and it aint part of the official game but someone decided to do that so hey pretty (hourai) neeto

I just say sheeda because when I hear sheeda I think of the tiny little pegasus flappin there and it is very funny otherwise I wouldn't prefer one over the other
when it comes to other official names though you get shit like "draug" instead of doga and "wrys" instead of riff and there's that whole bord cord thing where I don't know which of saji and maji is which

honestly that is one reason I liked genealogy because you can just go fucking crazy with the holy weapons and kill absolutely everyone and everything and break forseti 3 times over and it's actually the intended way of playing the game

then you find out in ch24 you use them like

ok I was thinking of this some three days ago and had WAY better examples
so I guess I'll just use fog of war as a pathetic singular gimmick example
it's a pain in the ass but once you find out how it works it's really not too bad at all (in gba at least)
it works slightly differently in different games and every time you see it there's a new opportunity to learn new shit like how thieves in fe6 can actually see a whopping 10 spaces in every direction and another 4 with a torch or how in fe7 you can actually select a square to use the torch on 
but in conquest it kinda just throws gimmick after gimmick at you and you either barely scrape through or you play the map 5 times, learn the gimmick, and then never see it again outside of like
one bad rev map and the original conquest map
one is "gimmick that you can learn" while the other is "gimmick you must adapt to or tolerate" and generally I aint a fan of the latter but I do understand why someone would be
it's kinda like those games that feel like being thrown into the pool without knowing how to swim
there are some maps I feel just straight up aint good at it thought 
or rather, ONE map
and that's ch19
under no circumstances can I ever see ch19 as anything more than a horrific mess 
it almost reminds me of the damn arena because of how low everyone's hitrates are and how you face one opponent each turn due to the weird ass "nonmoving kitsune" gimmick

my issue with the supports isn't "god damn it there is so many I don't care about this shit" it's that there are too many and I DO actually care but then it makes it like trying to dig out of a concrete prison with your bare hands
so there's too much to actually get to see it all without 333333333 playthroughs or three days of watching utoob uploads

I like it simple but genealogy really fucked the duck with pursuit and pavise so if I have to pick a skills game it'd probably end up fates

(for an actual response when I did a mostly mage run of units in fe6 the stats separated their roles pretty well and gave me a purpose to use each one
lugh doubled shit and hit all the time, ririna nuked, clarine and cecilia did absolutely fuckall but clarine can dodge while cecilia can chip and heal decently, hugh could go against physical attackers somewhat safely, ect. so I was able to use each for a certain niche added onto the general way the class performs and their bases and growths separated their strong points)

I moved all my guys forward before seizing the old castle while sigurd took a break almost every map but it worked fine for me what happen
the ch2 one was probably the least fine for me but I think either lex or quan just absolutely decimated anything that came at them when I started moving away from the entire ass army and the sleep guy went for alec or sylvia or whoever was up there at the time

never really felt the maps were open either at most I could just split up my party in ch3 to get all the shit before realizing villages are literally just not worth the trouble with their 1/5th of an arena win gold but otherwise it's objective to objective
only reason I think this one has better maps than awakening is because I think both are irredeemable shit but this one is conceptually cool while awakening isn't
gameplay wise though it's the same shit
also I forgot to pass down valkyrie but I don't think anyone even died in gen 2 anyway unless I am forgetting something (probably am)

fe6 does lack some of the stuff that fe7 has but overall I found it better probably just because I like the kind of shit it has not because it's actually a superior game

and if three house emulates decently then I can do that but SMTV emulated like watching TV on a +flip phone so probably that aint happening any time soon
gba and animations off genealogy are cool because it reminds me of action figures as a bab

fe6 is one of two? games where you can buy boots in the secret shop, other being fe1 if it's only two (and remakes if they have it also)
so if you are good with handling money and get all the extra stuff you can literally just nearly max out your entire party's move
sadly I bought a shitton of not boots so I could only max out loy be walkin and milady because lazy as shit

DLC can do it well though I have no idea what level anyone should actually be so it also gets kinda weird
by the way fates may be the only game with active online battles
but fe11/12 had online battles too before the nintendo servers or whatever the hell shut down
I don't know how fates plays but the description I've heard of 11/12 it seems exactly what would be expected from an online battle
GBA also had link arena which is...not spectacular

it seems attempts were made to try and have more stuff to do with the lategame teams but it wasn't until fe11 that they actually succeeded

in fe6 you kiiinda get a queue (why does this word exist)
or what I mean by that is C ranks usually happen pretty damn quick so there were a handful of instances where I had multiple C ranks form and realize "oh shit there's a support there" when accidentally pressing "end" instead of "support"
certainly aint no 3ds level but honestly I am glad fe6 has actual achievable supports compared to fe7 (how did they regress after one game)

ok the way three house dealt with it kinda reminds me of persona social links
a select few social links in some instances can change story events (I can only think of one that people hate but I'm almost certain there were like three more) though mainly it's just like
ultimate personas and whatnot
also some are locked behind story progress or your stats specifically in p5 which was such a major pain in my ass when I had to ignore sojiro for half the game because I didn't eat enough hamburgers for high courage or whatever the hell
this is another one of those things that kinda regressed over the games too though so now I've seen multiple examples of the system being capable of working with story but none where it seems to succeed considering everyone says three house has ass story

ok I did forget about the sonic thing I was given a lecture on sonicisms and sonic fanbase and shadow the hedgehog game
though out of the fanbases I would ever touch this gotta be most divided you know because I would rather have my fingers eviscerated than play sonic boom

it seems the games we started with have greatly impacted our preferences but high difficulty seems to be a good thing all throughout (too bad I played normal (nomaru modo?!?!?!) but hard do good)
honestly my main issue with skills is just that for some damn reason they made skills not class specific which makes no sense to me considering every single RPG I've played locks skills to classes to make them more unique
or look at something like pokemon where abilities aren't all specific to one pokemon type but each type of pokemon has a few specific abilities
I like me casts big so I can try out everyone though a small (but not three house small) cast has its shit going on as well
get that stamina shit out of here I get story gameplay integration but god damn it kaga

god passing around a killing edge to four units in a row is true fun times

yeah fe1/2/5/11 warp allows you to literally just go wherever the shit you want so you could finish even a genealogy map in like five turns if that game had this type of warp

these patches are fine and if enemy ranges are needed it provides this but it isn't like you can press X and suddenly the floor is hot pink until you manually turn it off either

I looked at all the maps again because there's no way peggies can be entirely turned to shit that easily I suddenly thought
ilia is mostly fine for peggies because there ARE ballistas but other than ch19a and 20a they do just fine
19a has a whopping five ballistas in fog of war so you can't check their ranges and 20a is a castle map with one ballista reachable only by flier and two only by warp (though you need either shanna, thea, or zealot to recruit juno here so you'd be bringing a peggy anyway)
for other maps where I could see them maybe having trouble, 11b due to two ballistas at the very beginning, 17b because fog of war ballistas so you can't check their range, likely 18b but I'm not really sure, possibly 19b but not always becuase the map isn't 100% filled with nomads, and maybe 23 because of three ballistas on the island
that's only seven maps out of the what, 39 the game offers total? and it's not like the ballistas can't be dealt with but more that I dunno how to do that properly I assume it would take either delphi shield or a wyvern
I benched shanna because of them ballistas and because milady did her job but better in most ways other than aid for rescue though likely with delphi shield you can make it work better than I expected

the funny three houses things:
mag/4 is still pretty daaamn good considering warp is magic
and magic's durability refreshes every single map

the two dancers: are not true
the one that can dance four at once is a battalion and it can only be used once (usually) per map. for me who is clearing every map in one turn: basically means two dancers
and yeah, they can dance eachother for the one use that it has

the 3-5 range is actually kinda misleading. it actually means +1-3 range. you can combine that with the +2 bowrange to get [bow range] + 1-5 range, and then you can have your bow be 2-3 to begin with, and there it is:
3-8 range. truly illegal (you lose ten hit for every tile away from like 3 or 4 but its still insane)

7/39 maps that aint eeeeven that bad
from what im hearin from tsun, thracia is hittin with a lot more than that

uhh i think genealogy differentiates each country even with the lack of variation in the tiles themselves, because the placement of the tiles makes them vary on a macro level
Grannvale is your grassland with lots of variation in elevation, and lots of cities
Verdane is mostly flat with tons of forests (not a very developed nation)
Augustria's royalty and knights and stuff live in plains along the edges, while most of its civilian population lives either in a huge forest in the south or near the ocean in the north
Silesse is split in half by forests and huge mountains (this is why they have pegasusses)
Isaach is mostly dry canyons in the north, but more grassy in the south
Thracia is full of rich land in the north, but the south has tons of super tall cliffs and pretty much no trees (this is why they have wyverns)
it's not mindblowing, but i think they did a good job

- a middle ground between the kaga games "2hulike" characterization and the modern games "too much to actually get to see it all without 333333333 playthroughs or three days of watching utoob uploads" supports

- using a lot of units instead of bulldozing through the game with the same 5 guys

- utilizing permadeath for interactive storytelling

- CBT

also fatigue is super blunt, but it gets you to switch out members of your army each chapter, and i love switching out members of my army each chapter

and honestly in thracia you're not really forced to use guys you dislike

theres around 20 units in it that i use pretty regularly and with a couple exceptions i like all of them as characters
well at least the ones who have character to them

one of the best units on my team says 3 lines in the beginning of a chapter and never speaks again, but i still love her because she looks cool and has carried my team through some real tough shit

but even with fatigue, you're not gonna see me using fuggin.... robert, or alba, or troude, or ralph, or callion, or glade, or whatever other boring ass nobody

out of what I've played the only deviation from the standard was genealogy

when it comes to games designed around permadeath everything I played seems completable with it but only fe1 and 6 and maybe 7 feel like you're actually supposed to do that
fe1 is obvious and 6 has a bigass cast as well but certain deaths lock you out of the true ending
also if lilina dies it's like if sheeda dies where you're gonna miss out on 1/3 of the recruitments past that point
7 has a bunch of prepromotes that are honestly better than if you raised up units of the same class though in that way I could see it being a good game for not giving enough a rat's ass to reset for kent

as far as I know no game past 12 is light on skills unless you reeeeally want to acknowledge 15 but nobody does
I looked a bit into PoR's skills and it has some strange system where you have 20 points and each skill has a different point value
like some mage kid who I'm absolutely not gonna bother using has a skill which is basically boots and it costs 10 points to equip so he has enough room for 1-2 other skills
seems fair enough and I don't believe the game has any reclassing or whatever so it's all personal or class-based

like imagine if two characters have an A support and one of them dies

if the other character is close by, they have some line that goes "oh no! my buddy is dead!"

and after the chapter is over you get a little cutscene of them grieving

or like for some examples in the games:

in the prologue of genealogy, alvis tells sigurd "hey dude keep my bro safe" and sigurd's like "gotcha". but if Azel dies beforehand, sigurd says "actually uhh azel's dead" and alvis goes all "well shit"

the dialogue itself is minimal but it's a nice touch anyway

or uhhh
theres a character in thracia that you can only recruit if a specific other unit of yours has died
which seems kinda funny
though i wouldnt know, cuz he's in the A route and i picked the B route

or like in chapter 3 when you fought eldigan's guys
imagine if lachesis had died in chapter 2 or 3, and sigurd tells eldigan that she was killed by agustria's army, and eldigan goes "what the shit? okay i was on the fence about chagall, but his troops killed my sister? screw that, im joining you guys"
obvs that would totally change the course of the game's story
but an important character dying should mean you get a different story
as the games are now, usually an important character dying means you get *less* story, and that kinda sucks

okay yeah youre outclassed in those and that seems very cool but i mean like uhhhh

youre still doing like straightforward combat
seems like fire emblem games either have "kill everyone with big sticks" or "run/fly/warp past everyone" as the only ways to get around most problems
what abuot laying traps? like ya know, arrow pressure plate stuff or ropes or mines, and leading the enemy into stepping on one
heck, picking up a rock off the ground and throwing it at the enemy's head. it does no damage, but reduces their attack speed by *just* a little bit-- enough so your guys won't get doubled by their super strong attacks.
or hey, how about utility for black magic? like if an enemy is using a tree/bush for avoid bonuses, using Fire magic against them would burn down the bush and remove those bonuses. or being able to supercharge an ally's weapon with Lightning magic, making it do more damage for a turn or two. or Wind magic having an ability to push enemies back a few tiles, which could place them right over a trap you set five turns ago.
or a chapter in a forest where you sneak up on a group of ridiculously strong soldiers that don't see you, and ambush them from the trees to gain the upper hand.
or a castle map where the powerhouses in your team (cavs and heroes and fliers) storms through the front door, and a second squad (theives and myrmidons and mages) takes an underground passageway into the back. the big battle in front is more about surviving than defeating the endless waves of tough guys. but most of the enemy soldiers are busy fighting that battle, so there's less opposition as the second squad infiltrates the halls and kills the boss. in essence, you're playing both a defense chapter *and* a seize chapter at the same time. heck, maybe after you've defeated the boss, you have to quickly find a way to let the enemy soldiers know that their leader is dead.

things like that definitely happen in the games
for example sword of raging fire has mines and that seems cool
but like i want a game that totally revolves around that sort of thing

and uuuuuuuhhhhhhh yes i am sorta talking about a fire emblem stealth game
you were all like "stealth in a strategy game is like mayonnaise on pizza" and that hurt my soul
sure, FE mechanics as they currently are don't lend themselves well to stealth, but if the game was built around it then i can imagine it being the coolest thing ever
though also it'd be horrendous if done wrong

thracia does a little bit of these things
capturing, escape chapters, staves like Steal and Sleep and Silence
they're cool and i really want more stuff in that vein

in those games everyone is a generic, ironman is the default mode, and it's considered a common thing for your entire squad to be wiped out in the same map. usually you can hire new guys to replace them, but it's a hassle.

otherwise the route splits I know are the two in fe6, technically fe7 even though lol doing anything other than shr3ktor mode unless new savefile, and fe8
no clue if anything post GBA has arran vs samson type stuff
ok I went and checked the crusty wikia and this archetype pretty much died at PoR
fe6/7 have a handful within them and in fe6 it's dependent on the route chosen

ok 25+ I don't think any game other than maybe tellius would allow for such a thing and I don't know how the uhhh
the weird tellius exp system where units not in a chapter can still get exp actually works so it's possible tellius wouldn't really work with that either
even genealogy doesn't allow for that because it only has 24 characters in gen 1 (didn't bother counting gen 2 maybe there's more there)
it would result in low EXP in most games and probably only be fit for stuff like fe7 with weaker enemies

ok that azel dies thing that's pretty much what I recall the handful of GBA scenes looking like
probably there's not a ton of them but there definitely are a few

fe1 literally doesn't care
uhhh I do know in fe4 if everyone dies then seliph just becomes ruler of every damn country in jugdral but otherwise I dunno there
fe6 and 7 just make most characters barely important in the cast so if they die you'll get at most a scene or two different and otherwise it doesn't matter again
and then I'm pretty sure in awakening and fates they just "retreat" if important and die if not
a game would probably have to really slim down the number of important characters for that I'd think though conceptually it would be an interesting thing

I guess traps to a very very very minimal extent exist in fates on a handful of specific occasions through dragon veins
like there is one that reduces all enemy HP to one in a castle and there's some in percy's paralogue where you lure enemies onto the space and they leave the map and give gold
but in general aint really nothing like those
I can barely think of any more but I feel there's a couple more they get the job done I suppose
pebble is like throwing a rock at someone's head for the debuffs because speed-4 means they are far less likely to reach the doubling threshold on a unit
shove exists to push back allies and enemies one space in PoR (I know shove exists as a skill in fates but I don't know if it works the exact same way) but otherwise the only way to move em more than one space is fuga's wild ride

that last description is a way some levels can be played but I don't know of any that inherently do that
like fe6 ch19b has a city where you can go in through the front door after a certain number of turns but you can also break in through one of the sides
so you could probably use most of your army as a diversion and then go defeat the boss and seize but not do the spreading the news thing
can't really think of a whole lot more than that one and most people don't bother waiting for the front door to open regardless though

the mine in fe7 is pretty much exclusively for the mine glitch
if any enemy steps on the mine they take like what 10 damage
any unit that places the mine could do more by just attacking normally and if not they're either a healer or belong on the bench
light rune allows for a tad bit japery but it's more impeding movement than doing a small amount of damage and it's also not useful outside of like two spots in the entire game
probably it could be improved in some way but the entire game would have to be changed around the concepts or else it'd just be something that nobody does

by "stealth in a strategy game" I'm referring to the way it was done in rev chapter 24
basically imagine mgs1 (or metal gear 1 or metaru gia tsu: sorrido suneku or whichever one you got to) except turn-based
it's just something that doesn't work and it's either you have boots and win or you don't have boots and it's a rout map because the only reason metal gear 1+2+solid 1+solid 2 work is because they're in real-time
thing you're talking about is a little like mgs3 with its camo and using terrain as cover, laying down claymores or c4 for traps, and the occasional using explosives to mislead enemies and whatever the hell
if we're talking diversions and using terrain to hide that's an entirely different thing because that kind of war tactics soundin stuff actually belongs in a strategy game
of course no idea how it'd actually be done but I wouldn't be surprised if a game of that sort already exists out there

everyone seems to say thracia is pretty much the exception in this series in most of what it has and does though so honestly I wouldn't expect much from newer games
there's capturing in fates but it doesn't work the same way as you said and we got like two escape chapters in fates (though one is a glorified rout unless you're lazy which then it's "walk to the right" and the other one is stairway to heaven) and we got good staves in GBA and fates like whatever silence sleep berserk freeze entrap enfeeble but most of that just isn't really a thing outside of fe5

when it comes to those types of mechanics fates is probably the closest you're gonna get 
entire weapon type and class exists pretty much entirely for debuffs or utility (lockpicking, poison damage for percentage chipping, uhhh forgot what else)
staves are nice and there's new ones
tonics/meals/pairup allow for what is essentially powering up a unit for one map/instance
uhhhhhhh
capturing allows you to use enemy units and there's some fancy famers like rallyman and haitaka
dragon veins very rarely can work as traps but usually aren't suuuuuuper worth trying to get working as traps I don't think
ok well that's the closest I can think of and it is definitely not the same thing but it's got the idea kinda
issue is you get like 28? units in all of conquest if we exclude all non-kana kids so there definitely will never be the option to cycle through ~20-25 units
also a whopping one is a ninja which is the aforementioned utility class and if he has a kid you get midoriko who can be a mechanist which is like a ninja except not good
other classes can use daggers but you probably won't have access to the full shuriken selection for widest range of weird shit
also conquest has 28-6 maps, birthright seems to be very easy and not entertaining on higher difficulties compared to conquest, and rev is thoroughly rotten to the bone so there's not a ton to work with
it's probably the best at doing those things but none of the games I've played do those things to more than a minimal extent really

oh yeah fates and awakening have the whole layers thing
where there can be a top and bottom of stairs 
it wasn't really used in any interesting way outside of maybe one occasion 
I could imagine capture working in a way where the enemy can get away with your units and then on the next castle map you'd have to deploy thieves to go to the basement and slip past the critzerker god guards to free your imprisoned guys then escape
it would be a nice change from the classic vs casual thing where you'd lose your unit for a decent amount of time and have to put in effort to get them back but they aint gone forever


I had one of them xcoms downloaded on the playstation vita apparatus though I did not touch it because the vita has like six hours of battery life when on sleep mode

maybe 5 or 6 non-lord characters
ya know, your Finns and your Lewyns; characters that technically arent 100% required for the main plot but are still considered super important
so killing them would change things a bit
and kinda your Sheedas and Lilinas and Azels and Lachesises; characters that might not have a direct impact on the plot, but should probably chip in from time to time because they have stakes in the events
for those guys you dont need much except a few lines down the road
and for the characters that HAVE to be alive, "retreating" when they die is really really stupid
i'd rather Quan/Ethlyn/Dierdre/Julia just trigger a game over if they're so important

the A route has two straightforward-yet-challenging chapters and you can recruit 4 awesome prepromotes (including a guy who can use warp immediately)

and the B route has two miserable chapters full of forests and ballistae and WARP TILES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and you are rewarded with the two worst units in the entire game

i picked the B route

going from like 10+ escape chapters to just two per game? tragic

okay the idea you had about capture is almost exactly how thracia does it
your units can get captured by enemies and taken away, and chapter 21x is about breaking them out of prison
it's really cool
the main problem is that if they're captured in early/midgame then gameplay-wise they might as well be dead, cuz they're missing like 10+ chapters and by the time you get them back they're SUPER underleveled
but the only way i can think of remedying that would be to have multiple prison break chapters and the game's story doesn't really have room for that

personally i would be totally down for 3d if they really utilized it for gameplay
otherwise it's cool, but having it doesn't really do much for me
also bad 3d (e.g. what i've seen of awakenings maps) is much worse than even NES tilesets

ok I shall detail all the arran vs samsons in fe6/7 because I forgot why

in fe6 echidna vs bartre and lalum vs elphin is pretty much entirely uninformed
juno and dayan are both mentioned multiple times beforehand (I think) and you know where they are (ilia/sacae)
the second one doesn't allow a direct choice but my assumption is that they purposely did this
for the true ending requirements you need shanna/thea alive if you go to ilia and shin/sue alive if you go to sacae
so if one of them dies you're a lot more likely to not end up on that route and you won't get screwed out of the true ending
ok wait I checked again and apparently it's juno/zealot for ch20ax and shin/sue/dayan for 20bx???
so in this case it's more "keep shanna or thea alive so you can recruit juno without having to bring a jeigan with stats lower than roy" and sacae works as I thought I guess lol
if they're all dead and none of them ever got any EXP (a complete tie) you end up in ilia by default
this is why feWOD calling ilia the B route and sacae the A route is dumb dumb stoopid

in fe7 you've got wallace vs geitz and karel vs harken
unlike the ones in fe6 uhhh well
I don't really know how the original arran vs samson went because I just went to whichever village was closer and then boxed whichever one of the two it was because I don't need him
but in fe7 these choices are both imbalanced as all hell and depend on other weird ass dumb factors
first one though
this one is weird because if you played lyn mode you know damn well who wallace is and he starts as a promoted general
but if you didn't play lyn mode you don't know who the hell this bald knight guy running around is
whether he's better immediately promoted in lyn mode to be actually usable or better as a knight so you can level him to 20 before promoting for oswin jr, god knows, but his competition is geitz
standard prepromote in fe7: better than any of the shit you raised up
geitz is the only warrior that doesn't suck in fe7 and he does that shit good
here's the thing though: the split is determined by the combined levels of your lords???
if the combined levels of your lords are below 50, you get sent to a fog of war map where lv10 knight wallace will probably suicide into some enemy like a moron
and if it's above 50, you are rewarded with a not-fog-of-war map with a great prepromote
people don't typically get lord levels that high especially without lyn in lyn mode so lol what the hell is this choice

and then karel vs harken
if you played fe6 you probably know who karel is but if you didn't he's just this edgemaster running around saying his sword thirsts for blood or whatever (not mystletainn) and he killed his entire god damn family so nobody else would know the sword secrets (real)
and then your other choice is harken who is one of the best prepromotes in the game but he's just some guy
the way you "choose" is determined by two things
first, the version of the chapter you're on
you end up on one version if your mages are higher level and the other if your uhhh
physical attackers of a very specific list are at a higher level
to get karel you have to kill three certain promoted enemies by turn 10 on the first route (this probably will happen), or open four or more doors by turn 10 on the second route (this probably won't happen)
to get harken, you just have to like
not do either of those things
what this results in
if you want karel, you pretty much have to go the first route
if you want harken, you just gotta kinda wait around because he spawns in the middle of the map
and also harken is 100% better than karel and everybody knows this so almost nobody will ever bother getting karel
these ones are both ass
if they kept doin it like this maybe the archetype was best off dead

it kinda depends on who's there out of that 24 members
this game is light in promotion items so unless a good portion are prepromotes you're gonna end up light on money
and also you'd probably end up light on EXP
if the mainstays aren't the shitter squad they'd probably end up entirely useless compared to whatever else
the enemies in this game for me weren't fe7 weak until around ilia? maybe after arcadia? and then they stopped being like that after ilia lol
so I suppose it could work because enemies wouldn't be one-rounded until around that point anyway
only on normal though

I think fe4 was the only game I played with actually plot-important playable characters and more than uhh
1-2 semi-important non-lord characters
after ch8 in fe6 ririna is like sheeda in that she recruits things and does not have any lines unless she's marrying roy
fe7 had nils/ninian and matthew who are pretty important or at least relevant and there is one scene that can change if one of em dies but otherwise aint none
honestly when it comes to having characters that "retreat" turning into a game over
it gets kinda like in fe7 where it's "why would I ever bring the characters that make me get a game over if the game doesn't make me" though then again that is the game where 2/3 of those game over condition characters suck ass and if you bring them you get what you get
also I know deirdre/julia just retreat and reappear at the castle next chapter but does quan/finn/ethlyn also do that or do they just piss off forever if die




this is all the escape chapters in the series
basically yeah again only thracia does that shit
no clue what thracia escapes is like but in conquest it's "reach this area at the end of the map"
ch15 is that glorified rout and I have no idea how ch12 and stairway to heaven compare to thracia escapes

oh I always thought captured units in thracia just die at the end of the map if you don't save em because people would say "if leaf escapes first lol you're fucked"
I was thinking something like a castle map every ~5 chapters getting your guys back so your captured units would definitely end up with less levels and lose all their shit as a suitable punishment but still not be entirely useless for the rest of the game
less a specific prison break and more a "throw him in the dungeon!" type castle break because man in this series I have seen my fair share of guys thrown into the dungeon but they never make it into an actual gameplay thing you just seize the castle instead

layers is the only instance I can think of 3d actually being used well really
or rather stairs because stuff like the one awakening map with the doors is just a 2d map put into 3d
only a handful of chapters actually used stairs (for some reason I only remember one but there are certainly more) and after fates it seems the series regressed so I guess we're gonna have to hope for fates mods

yeah nothing thracia does happens in the rest of the games forward or backward pretty much
wasn't it just kaga's final "lmao" to IS before pissing off and making his own stuff
maybe his own games have more of that stuff but all I know is tearring has capture and stuff like personal skills before FE did that and whatever other kaga things so until I bother using the ps vita again I will not know

the best exp map, as far as i can tell, is rogues and redeemers 3. buncha high level enemies, they come at you so you can just kinda end turn once youre strong enough, and clearing it gives you a copy of the very useful limit break skill scroll

by the way, in almost every dlc map every single character has a couple lines of dialogue the first time they get in battle, so it isn't all boring. map might pose a threat the first few times you do it too

to mix it up maybe toss in an infinite regalia which is a fair bit less exp but much more controlled, and more importantly, snags you three legendary weapons. legendary weapons are the stock stuff when it comes to apotheosis, so pretty helpful. you might also get a bolt axe, but pretty good odds to get something great



thats true if these bitches had genealogy pavise there would be no hope

not all enemies have the same busted skills, they come in groups based on their class, and all enemies in the group have the same skillset (aside from their presumed leader who is just a bit better in every way)



do not worry about the dark dragon i can handle it

that example is just about as busted as it gets though, aside from some dumb boss only skills and the fact that the game topples like a cardboard stand with basic planning (i have not played maddening)

one more thing about the dancer though its really interesting

you can actually choose to make any one of your units (excluding byleth) dancers. you cant chance it once you do it but pretty nice to not have to lug around someone annoying and also i made edelgard the dancer. my loadout was insane. literally demented. this choice happens like 40% of the way through the game so you may think what if i want lategame unit as a dancer instead

sacred stones does have some weird stuff. slightly awakening-like with the map movement but im pretty sure you cant get free exp. i picked ephraim's route and did not get very far! but it mostly just felt like the other ones with some conveniences

tellius has weighted skills, yeah. on average tellius skills are stronger than 3ds skills but more reasonable than genealogy skills, and there are a lot of them. i think it is a pretty good system and i don't terribly mind having less total slots when its not terribly hard to get skill scrolls for cool ass stuff like counter

the weird tellius exp thing is that you get some stuff called bonus exp after every chapter depending on how well you did, kinda like if rank from fe4 was useful, and then you can allocate it however you want between chapters



shove in tellius is something you can do to anyone as long as you have higher con than them (i think), no skill required



i never realized it but yeah you are kinda right fates has a lotta those weird thracia mechanics. just got so used to capture it feels weird that it is not there

ive seen dudes play with all generics and it looks pretty neat. have not messed with the eirnijnrerhjar much

dragon veins yeah are situational even when they are useful but im pretty fine with that. noty a big fan of having to rely on the royalbloods just for their royalty

I suppose this is one of them "do not do that" story moments
aint fliers always good
in fe1 you can give sheeda silver lance and also minerva (other than this I know literally zero ways that fliers are good in fe1)
fe4 your flier can go around fucking stuff up when you dump all the rings and magic swords and brave lance on em and is pretty much the only way I was able to finish gen 2 in like half the time of gen 1
fe6/7 you got rescue and your flier doesn't actually need to see combat (this is why juno isn't 100% unusable just like 80%) and I actually use this in a pretty similar way to pairup except somewhat less good
fe9 has the same except rescue is even better because for some reason mounted units have the mount included in their con and rescue works as rescuer con>rescued con by at least 2 so fliers would probably be able to rescue anything that isn't mounted (mounted units can't be rescued in PoR pretty sure)
it doesn't match up to reclassing gunter into a wyvern rider then flying over with GATOR and switching to do pair up+gunter bonuses damage but it's quite good
honestly sad that they fuckin nuked pair up off the face of the earth it got to be cool for like one game

despite mages being cool shit always I don't think I've ever seen magic done as anything more than a bunch of books where each new one does more damage until you finally replace your entire collection with just forseti/aircalibur/nosferatu/luna/lightning(not the light magic version)/whatever
I like what kiiiinda happened in fe4 and what apparently happened more in tellius where you get mages that do one specific type of magic and also the magic weapon triangle
but then apparently in all of these games those mages are just utter shit always
though it would potentially just end up feeling like the 1-2 range version of physical weapons so I dunno what to do with it honestly

learning how the AI works seems to crush every fire emblem game though so I have no idea if it would work for an entire game
in fact I'm not even entirely sure how traps could work with AI I still haven't had a normal experience with that
in mgsv if you set down explosive mines (pretty much this game's only traps other than sleep mine or vehicle net) and go hide the game just says "fuck you asshole" and it sends the enemies directly to the place you're hiding after the mine goes off
they have no actual way to know this but they just telepathically detect you're there and they go right there
I had an almost cool strategy for one mission but this made that not so cool anymore
anyway that has absolutely nothing to do with anything so uhhh
stickybombs in tf2 and whatever traps in the smashed bro seem to work because it's PvP and ok I only just now understood why you brought up AI

threat stat/enemies not attacking and/or running away from your guys that destroy them is something I see in a good amount of RPGs
earthbound and mother 3 did it, persona 3 and 4 did it, but there is one very important game that did that
and that's conquest
you know like when the enemies won't target units they can do barely any damage/no damage to
there was something else similar I saw just a couple of days ago about conquest's AI I thought was very neat but I have absolutely zero recollection of what this was
it aint the exact same thing but it's close and I still wonder to this day why they put that AI in just conquest and absolutely nowhere else ever

tutorials are good enough and definitely 2nd best but lyn mode actually has you do these things yourself so no strange anna dialogue is gonna be able to match up to that


honestly I found it weird to see capture existed so long ago and yet exists in a whopping two games and is completely different in each
in thracia I see it mainly used to steal weapons or to have an enemy capture your unit so it's easier to kill said enemy
while in fates you gotta capture a guy and then talk to him fifteen times over the span of a week until he finally realizes his eternal fate has been decided without his input and decides to join you out of sheer despair
if you snag a rallyguy though he can make your stats higher so it's easier to kill an enemy so there is your singular similarity 

I forgot dragon veins needing royalty kinda severely limits their usefulness yeah
you could have xander kill like six ninjas or you can have him move a rock into a spot without a rock

I forgot if anything other than binding blade has a true ending (unless you count rev which is a 30 hour long training session in oblivion) but the one in binding blade is honestly far less bad than people say it is
it's basically just "don't get a bunch of people killed", "don't use the legendary forblaze on a lv3 troubadour", and then a select few chapters have turn limits that generally shouldn't be hard to get under if you know they're there (this is the guide part)
oh yeah also not killing douglas that is a verrrry guide guide part
otherwise I could see myself getting it by just playing the game and the main asspain is suffering through five shit gaidens, one warpskip gaiden, and then a crummy semifinal and final map

combined level of lords below fifty is for the arran vs samson and luckily fe7 lacks a "true ending" so it's just a one map difference
wallace is funny so I am fine with it honestly (though it definitely is not a good thing)

based fe7 enjoyer (best game to start)

lyn mode (this first part, ~10? chapters) must be savoured because after playing like four more fire emblem games it feels like waiting at the doctor's office for three hours BUT for a first time it is very gud

do not worry it's not a visual novel yet it will be in like 5 years though after third house gets a racing and fighting game spinoff and eventually fire emblem becomes a full-fledged visual novel dating sim (this is what the people want)


there is an option to turn off the tactician so lyn won't talk to the player but I think it's only on a cleared save and I don't recall it happening much past lyn mode

anyway yes is good it gets better after uhhh chapter 10 or whenever when they stop putting the tutorials and do not worry for serra will be here shortly keep goin
