So as the Chen lover that I am, a while back I've conjured up this other game idea with some concept art to boot! The game's plot is as follows: Chen one day at Mayohiga decided that she would get her master, Ran, a present that dwells in a very dangerous area in Gensokyo to prove that she's strong and can be useful to Ran aswell as prove to the cats in Mayohiga that she's their leader. Pretty simple plot right? The Gameplay would be like a sonic esc type of game with some puzzle elements to it (and danmaku of course). There will also be cats to save as you go through levels. Each level would contain 3 cats each except for the boss stage and saving a cat will making them stick with you and help you until the end of the level. The more cats you save the stronger you'll get not only in power but you can unlock more spellcards like this. And that's basically it At the end of the game Ran reveals that she's been following Chen the whole time and wants to know why Chen's doing this and Chen spits out the truth. But now that she's here Chen challenges Ran to a Spellcard Battle which she reluctantly accepts. Whether you win or lose in this fight determines what ending you get Good Ending - Ran congratulates Chen in beating her as she floats down to safety with the unconscious Chen Best Ending (saved all the cats) - Ran congratulates Chen in beating her but then she notices all the cats Chen has saved floating down with them (transported there by Yukari) and says that she's proud of Chen and that she'll love her no matter what as the unconscious Chen clenches on to Ran. Bad Ending - Chen having been defeated by Ran feels that she's unworthy of Ran and runs away never to return Attachments:

yeah seems pretty simple but nice minimal story but enough to appreciate the gameplay like a mario game I have not played a sonikku but that description reminds me of those old stage-based high difficulty games the type of game you'd learn to play and then be able to beat quicker, yeah? not too many collectibles and the good endings aren't locked behind finishing without continues pretty good

ho ho i do like me some sonic and chen is a perfect fit for it. compact. versatile. an animal. two tails. cannot believe she did not show up and get a spindash in 17.5 i hope cats are not vulnerable to danmaku because protecting them would be difficut but otherwise i am all for having an army of em. actually in general i am not sure how you would run danmaku in a sonic-like where momentum is everything without feeling like you've got ice physics, but stuff could be done for it and i bet it could work out if you had some kinda extra movement tool or focus button that normalized movement the concept art is fantastic, look at all those expressions dude. homing attack looks like the cat pounce in that mario game wit tha bell thing. and what's that say, extra stage yukari? real touhou hours

I don't know nothin about sonics but perhaps the danmaku could work the way it does in the fighting games with graze like you're forced to quickly move through an area because of the danmaku
the one actual sonic gameplay I've seen is a boss fight where sonic just goes to an area and suddenly robotnik makes him start playing mean bean machine I don't know if the game is usually like that but if it is then maybe it can be photo game-like where you have one spell card to "solve" dunno how sonick works though danmaku seems pretty tough to incorporate in games

genuine truthing right there dude you take momentum based gameplay and you make speed give you invincibility to bullets thats grade A smoothness. mirrors edge sorta does that and it works fairly well and i can imagine that going with toho fighter or 17.5 style of graze i'd open gamemaker and start going crazy if i wasn't already swamped with incomplete project files
the mean bean machine bit is a boss in mania and basically the only time they get so funny with it
speakin of the blue blur how about that new trailer huh. do ya think they can finally make another good one

ok it is good to know the original idea is good since the backup is completely out of place
only through this post did I find out there is sonick movie numero two oh all I remember was the first one looked godawful and then they actually listened and fixed it and that was the last I heard of it so I'm guessing it was somewhere between "eh" and "pretty good" my knowledge of sonikku extends only to coldsteel the edgehog, pingas, "that's no good", and whatever were the contents of that one 3d sonic ds game I had for about two weeks

The graze mechanic is GENIUS. Would definitely help in keeping momentum. Also HYPED for both the moovie and the game. Though making sure to keep expectations low so that the world doesn't end.
