"hearn? maribel? touhou? yukari is fooling around again?" i hear you eagerly ask upon reading this title, but not today. today we discuss the hearn in an only tangentially touhou manner

koizumi yakumo, or as he is best known, lafcadio hearn, was an author, translator, biologist, linguist, journalist, probably a few kinds of artists, this dude did a lot. mostly, though, he liked japan and japanese mythology which i would wager happens to fall in the general field of our humble forums here
i've known about this dude for a while, since like the first time i learned about maribel, but i never went out and read any of his stuff until recently when i was gifted this book for christmas. immediately turned to the back because "hey what if mr. hearn was referenced in this ha ha toho" but he actually was, in fact half of the book is compiled from his now public domain works. i probably wouldn't have gotten it for myself even if i knew that but just having it i'm not gonna pass up on reading and it's pretty cool.
some of the classics i've seen before are included in the thing like momotaro and kaguya but most of it i didn't know going in. and of course, this is all relevant touhou research if it's got stuff like an original rokurokubi story or the yuki-onna. thanks mr. hearn now i understand a stage 2 boss' brief spellcards a bit more

ever read or felt like reading anything by the guy?
dug up some links to some of his stuff which was very easy considering the aforementioned public domain state of it. also apparently there's a museum for the dude in japan run by one of his descendants. pretty cool

GLAD YOU ARE THE MOUSE SET !. i wanted to choose something that resembled our friendship and the mouse set i saw and thought was perfect. the metal and plastic reminds me of the place we first met (lunatic forums online) and you own that now.

I remember learning about him the first time I read Yuki-Onna. There was an author's info panel at the end and was surprised that an old Japanese myth was written by a European. Later learned he'd written all sorts, and it is pretty cool that a European made such contributions to Japanese folklore.

That's a cool gift to receive as well. Many might be a little unenthused by that sort of gift, much respect that you were excited to receive it. A man of culture, one could say haha

Much respect to the man, should read more of his stuff someday. Big backlog in Japanese as well, want to read more Meiku （名句）Yukiguni（雪国）and some of Natsume Souseki's stuff already haha
