i have the opposite problem, whenever i try to play a traditional shmup i get destroyed. good luck on your next attempt
i don't mean to oversell the fourth game, but i've been havin a lot of fun with it. perfect for the short period between classes apologies for just throwing out jojo references, i just kinda hope it will land since it's become so popular recently. if you do watch it, don't be afraid to put it on while doing something else. it's a long series so i've watched more than a few episodes while doing codework
i think late replies are a bit inevitable, i'm three days late to this myself. it is a tough time which will hopefully get less tense for me at least after upcoming midterms

That's interesting, appreciate the wish for good luck. I'll get at it again soon I hope. The past several days have been indescribably busy, exhausting but good.
I think I'll probably have a lot of fun with it too. Still looking forward to it, although I am sure it will be a ways away.
The Jojo aesthetic is fantastic, gives me more drive when working out even. Hope to watch someday, I will keep your advice in mind for when I do.
Good luck with your midterms. Seems we are all dealing with very busy times.

{the reasoning behind this post and how its contents were created} after playing a large portion of the fourth game i decided it would be a good idea to try some of the others with different characters, and on hard mode since i was now playing unreal difficulty on the fourth game and after some attempts on the first game, i had still yet to make any progress. even though i had seen some of those patterns on harder difficulties in the later games, i could not 1cc on hard with my preferred character. my dodging? not particularly bad, i think. the real problem was that each time i was losing like two lives without having used their bombs yet i've played touhou for a while and while losing lives without expending all their bombs used to be more of a problem, it is still a significant one. a lot of the time, it's just because i can't predict a fairy zooming through the point of collection usually in touhou, i'm completing it for the challenge, not for the story. of course i want to see that through, but each character has a similar route and there is much of the story in the print works or fighting games that feature no such mechanics len'en's story is almost exclusively in the games, so me not burning all of my bombs at the slightest spook was hindering my progress there. i'm not gonna say story should be free but right the bombing mechanics didn't exactly lean toward multiple successful playthroughs
one week later: my pal and i are discussing what to do for a final project in a programming class and we are at a dead end. can't think of anything. we decide to do something else for a bit and i say "yo i want to patch this c# game with autobomb how should i go about it" because he does c# and i know len'en is visual studio like touhou. he says we use dnspy decompiler and by this point i'm thinking "oh yeah i remember dnspy this should be easy in and out". i was wrong dnspy shows just about nothing so we look for any documentation on how to take this thing apart, change one line, and put it back together. there was one thing in c++ that almost looked like it wanted us to compile it ourselves but it turned out we didn't even need it and when we are starved of clues we open up pandora's box of "what about assembly?" (assembly is what the computer creates and reads from compiled programs in human readable programming languages and is just a couple steps away from binary machine code, not something most people want to deal with). but it's just one line, how hard could it be? we pop open cheat engine and start searching for relevant memory addresses
45 minutes or so later, i thought we were at another roadblock and it's nearly midnight so i say "alright i'm gonna go but thanks for helping me check this out" and seven hours later i wake up to messages from him containing the complete autobomb assembly patch for evanescent existence he tells me how he figured it out, and within the day we patch the second and third games tl;dr: the game is hard so me and a friend gave it autobomb and here are the patches i have decided it is not cheating as long as you play a difficulty that challenges you not sure if you guys were playing these enough to be interested, but i figured it would be good to at least post these somewhere in case somebody was searching for them massive thanks to super programmer friend

heilige sheiße you have created patch
well I mean I kinda gave up on the idea of beating the first game until I could beat any 2hu on hard though autobomb will probably make it possible without playing it another 30 times or 1ccing lunatic SA no bomb no sound eyes closed lights off now I shall be able to complete such a game without jumping between dimensions and stopping time

Aeonお疲れ様 I remember in some of Cave's later console games they added an optional auto-bomb feature. I think the catch was that it would empty all of your bombs though (which is still preferable to losing everything with the ship). I think auto-bombing is fine, will have to consider the patches whenever it is that I can get to the fourth game. About 3am here already, doing research and study for students, co-workers, classes, etc. haha spongelevatorWe share a common struggle, surviving the first game haha

i am glad to announce that after 100%ing the fourth game in a few intense days after my midterms ended that it was worth it to do so because all the story bits are very interesting and i am now a non-zero amount better at dodging in touhou and a non-zero amount worse at bombing after having gotten used to the minimal-bombing style of the fourth game but i suppose the skill came at a fair price lazulumthat's a fair autobomb feature, at least less scary than nothing especially since i've heard cave is quite difficult even when compared to some touhou games. haven't tried them myself though good luck surviving the first game, you may be interested to hear the 4.5th which i have recently downloaded is not nearly as harsh. that might be because it is a cafe management-srpg game and lacks all danmaku-like features but it is fun to look at and mess with sometimes in the same way one would fix up a minecraft house

Congrats, mate! Both on the game and the midterms
That's cool that they are diversifying the series with some new style of games Interested in getting that at some point.
Really just have to get used to danmaku again. Very different, but also very fun

I'm about to talk about something.
CONGRATULATIONS AEON! i should've been there, along with spongeleavat, peach treats, AND lazulum, however i can understand, since your schedule is busy, mostly couldnt invite us all to the party and thats fine. -100% is a lot of achievement. if you were my son I'd probably ask you how proud I am, you would say a lot. My favorite thing about how you've accomplished this is that you never once hesitated or were nervous. it shows strength. it is about to be your best day. because youre strong i'd probably say you're the strongest member of the lunatic red forums. (ebbxxx is the weakest). i saw your scores on the billboard today, and i think that's perfect in that you deserved to be shown in glory. but the Len'en Maiden Project is a difficult game and even though you have beaten it i have not. any tips? any tricks? any obstacle workarounds? any english patches? any guides? any help? any exploits? any abilities? respond to tell me and maybe i will become tougher.

i am humbled by your recognition you can find the english patches here
i uploaded an autobomb patch a couple posts ago which i think is fair if you are still challenging yourself with the difficulty don't forget about the flash bombs, and i wish you good luck

Hate to dig up a thread, but got in the mood to replay RMI now that I finished shopping for Christmas. BPoHC's rougelike stuff was different, but I liked it; can't tell if I want 0, 5, or Golden Chapter to get a release first. The older games are a good bit harder than 4, but don't give up on 'em, they're great too. Main pointers I can give is that the stages really want you to memorize the best position for quick kills; 4 is pretty good about teaching this, and as a bonus most of the armies are based off sections from the previous games' stages. On bosses, besides git gud, don't lock yourself into focus.
Also, don't let your guard down until the dialogue box comes up.

uh oh, christmas shopping. many thanks for reminding me because i woulda gone until the 24th without remembering anyway yeah, getting good at stages is important. i'd say sightreading is possible, but you can really make it easier on yourself by taking note of where a few guys will spawn as you can see in my earlier rants in this thread, i think bpohc is just the bee's knees even if balance is all over the place. i've been doing some cool stuff in book of the cafe but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't way more ready to start on monochrome world or golden chapter (especially now that jynx uses unity i can take a looky at how the games work internally) last time i tried RMI, i went for glory and tried to complete my "every len'en on hardest difficulty" runs with its absurdly extra but, well, even autobomb and suzumi cannot save me from more bullets than any other engine would crumble under. spell practice woulda been great, very happy that bpohc has such a robust one
edit: also, don't worry about late replies. such is the fundamental ideology of the 2020 lunatic red revival

it's out, baby! unreal is actually pretty unreal. in the other difficulties, with one or two exceptions, its been pretty easy to just drop a couple abject shots and maybe a monochrome storm but shit is real now. (uhm actually its not real because)
rei-kun is VOICED and i am now considering if it would be funny to put vocaloid voice acting in a game i make sometime. they are a funny little fellow i had enough leftover exp from just leveling other guys up through the daily thing to instantly cap the guy at 90 so i can see a couple good numbers not as good as hooaka or good ol tubakura but gettin there
the story stuff is getting translated insanely quickly but im just gonna wait for a patch to come out since the text drawing is kinda sliiiiiick

Seems like it hasn't been pushed to the unityroom site yet, so I guess I'll see. just skimming through the translated story so far, nice to see Jynx already taking the piss on himself by the first chapter. wonder where this leads into the rest of the games, but the title probably isn't a coincidence
