spongelevatorAn age old problem on the internet, if I understand correctly. That being fandoms and such, many are quite hostile to others and even those within the same fan circles. Never quite understood it. Yeah it's quite great how inexpensive such storage has gotten these days. I remember when things such as the Hyper X Max 3.0 USB were cutting edge, a whole 200 gigabytes on a single flash drive all for the affordable price of a few hundred dollars haha Hmm, maybe a private tracker somewhere yeah. That's a fair point, maybe. I imagine a lot of old Touhou works have been saved that way, a lot of the more prominent stuff at least. I'm sure there were a lot of obscure or lower quality/less ambitious works that have been lost to time. I remember there being drama CDs but never really got into those. Other than that mostly sub-genres of the main genres you've listed. Many, many sub-genres. AeonYeah the old culture of convention-focused distribution has its cons definitely, the main one being that many become inaccessible and lost in the future. That's good of you to archive projects just in case, good foresight and it has proven the wise thing to do as the site came down. Nintendo is, despite that, better than most with preserving its older titles. It's quite astonishing the extra revenue forgone by many companies that simply sit on old games that a good many would gladly re-purchase. Capcom found this out with Megaman re-releases and Konami had it a bit with Metal Gear. But both Capcom and (especially) Konami, along with many others (e.g., Sega) are still terrible with making older releases accessible. Some of it I suppose has to do with trying to focus attention on newer products, I remember this being the case with Sega with a new Shining Force game sometime ago. In order to ensure that it would appear at the top of searches Sega went as far to falsely strike down almost any video on YouTube talking about the old Shining Force games. Caused quite the controversy back in the day. That WayBack Machine is quite good too, have to get the hang of using it one of these days. Also I said I'd reply in the morning, about ten hours off the mark heh... Should be more careful and state "hopefully" next time haha

I've seen nasty fandom stuff happen at times though usually it's not at a large enough scale to be unavoidable thankfully if something gets real gunky then I'll just do something else instead and check in a month to see if they finally stopped I reasd Hyper X Max 3.0 USB and thought it was one of those things like "super ultra nintendo 23dsi XXL" but man it's actually called that an external drive named like an energy drink, what a world I dunno if there's some sort of non-english touhou private tracker though at least with anime private trackers I've heard they have all the stuff usually available elsewhere in higher quality and also a lot of obscure stuff or whatever's flopped hopefully some place out there has weird 2002 touhou doujin music albums that would have been lost to time otherwise though I don't really know myself I remember more popular animes had drama CDs though I always thought they'd be like a drama tv show except without visuals so I never touched them lol I think I may have heard one before though yeah I didn't get much into the idea of it internet becoming all-consuming is not very nice but one good thing about it is many doujin albums seem to be sold digitally as well these days who knows what'll happen to the old stuff but the new stuff seems it'll have decent preservation because of that at least I think maybe nintendo's better at preserving its old titles though it definitely comes at a cost which is that copyright hammer they take down rom sites though there was that time they seem to have downloaded a mario rom from the internet and sold it on the wii shop switch offers many free nes and snes games if you have nintendo online so that is much better than how it used to be I'd say also osts being struck off youtube frightens me for what may happen if someone like reimu actually got into smash well japan is like 16 hours ahead of californyer so it shall be opposite time of day so technically you replied in the morning and have achieved good time ha forum is timeless pleas no worry

Fortunately I don't think I've ever seen anything get quite bad with the Touhou fandom
Hyper X Max is certainly a unique name for a flash drive haha I would buy an energy drink with that name Just looked it up myself out of curiosity, can't even find them for sale anymore, just a bunch of old reviews.
Didn't know that doujin albums are being sold online now, that's cool.
I just remembered how MediaFire was used a lot to save old files in the past. They had some large purges down the line though.
Yeah that's true, Nintendo is particularly strict on copyright enforcement. I remember when they were persistently pursuing let's players a few years ago. Not to mention the Metroid 2 remake fiasco.
The worst part about OSTs being stricken down is that many channels will have the OSTs for dozens of games/animes/etc. Uploaded and just one getting stricken pulls it all down.
Appreciate haha A lot happening on my end the past few days, busy week ahead so I can't be as active at the moment
I'll get to replying to other stuff as soon as I can
Edit: if there are any major typos, I typed this with my phone

spongelevatori forgot they're selling the galaxies on the wii u shop. hope they don't pull the plug on that and 3ds anytime soon because they have some good selections. maribel hearn's name has always been a topic of great contention because it has only been written in katakana, i think. google translate probably doesn't have much to go off of doujin music thread sounds good. new age 2008-like touhou music and mv archive bad fandom stuff is unavoidable unless the creator gets involved usually. i remember a lot of bad stuff happened in 2016 between some people who disagreed about undertale shipping. for touhou, the only big problem i've seen is homophobes (somehow?) but its easy to leave em alone unless its like fans of youtube people or celebrities. that can end up being nothing but bad stuff nintendo is the absolute worst when it comes to fangames and mods. they make some good stuff but their practices on that kinda stuff are so insanely archaic it sucks. you know what they say, sega is chill while nintendisn't there will always be ways around it, but trying to gain popularity for a nintendo-based mod or fangame is just asking to get it nuked lazulumyou have a point about nintendo, forgot about the virtual console thing. you can still get snes games on the switch, which is cool. guess it's justa gap in the middle that's hard to get normally mediafire has always been good for me, i can still find a couple links from threads from pre 2010 that still work sometimes. mega.nz has gotta be the best easy hosting site though sucks when they don't upload the ost but prevent anyone else from uploading it. many have started putting their stuff on itunes or spotify or whatever but blocking youtube uploads is not only lame, but just about impossible. poor gilvasunner, with now few rips to his name, he can only watch the high quality rips of siivagunner from afar no problem with taking it easy on posts for a few days, there can be ebb and flow in activity

oh yeah you know those rainbow glowing gamer computer parts everywhere hyper x max 3.0 usb sounds like it'd glow an icy blue with the power of monster energy usually if I find a google spreadsheet or links on a website to mediafire I can get a whole lotta stuff downloaded though it's more a file hosting service than an actual place where things are kept and categorized also whenever a file is removed for copyright or whatever the mediafire animal paintings follow the cursor with their eyes as I am closing the page good thing circles are beginning to put stuff online though I don't think I ever saw anything digital be discontinued unless an entire service shut down like the wii shop yeah I remember channels like ricemaster3 get a few strikes and now everything is gone rip mario sand canyon there was one touhou doujin channel that got removed like 3 times by youtube but they kept going anyway lol that is true power if 3ds shop goes down then lol each individual smt game will be sold for more than a 3ds itself all these people arguing maribel hearn vs han, but the real answer is merry berry hahn turns out, her middle name is "berry", and this is why renko always calls her "merry" oh yeah I think I heard nintendo tried to go after a pokemon rom hack once so people just smuggled it around instead of it having an actual release page or anything lmao only way to listen to nintendo osts is to buy the $300 luxury pack which also includes curtains and a set of plates sorry, no refunds I dunno if doujin books are sold online like music albums though I think I heard once an effort to translate some touhou doujins into english and sell them legally working with circles because the entire touhou's existence outside of asia is mediafire links and suwako house

Somehow I missed the notifications for this thread AeonYeah Mediafire was good to me for a long while. What happened was they did a purge of inactive accounts, so a lot of uploads whose uploaders abandoned the account got wiped. Understandable practice but still sad. Mega NZ is one of the best definitely. I remember back when it was under a different domain and it got copyright banned, much lost as usual, then NZ eventually rose from the ashes. Yeah OSTs have long since had strange practices surrounding them, very inconsistent in any case. I appreciate the understanding. Weekdays have been bad for me, very busy, but the good kind at least. spongelevatorY'know it kind of does haha I was reading about branding recently and USBs are cited as an interesting case as having no brands really standout from others. I wonder if "Hyper X Max 3.0" was an attempt to stand out and establish a brand. I know exactly what channel you are talking about, the guy's in South East Asia, drawing a blank on his name though. Pretty sure I am still subbed to all, even the deleted ones (although they just sit as a blank icon in the sub bar haha) That story of the Pokemon Rom hack is exactly what happened with the Metroid 2 remake haha

I had a day for rest for the first time in a while. Scheduled to meet with an old friend, of all places he picked Akiba actually. Picked up some stuff while I was there. > Got Touhou 15.5, Now I don't have to worry about not having it next time we arrange a fighting games session. It's nice to have the disk, too. > Got Touhou Suichouka, Volume 1 I didn't even know this existed, caught my attention on the shelf so I picked up a volume. Will tell what I think of it when I get around to reading it. Has anyone else read this? What do you think of it if so? > Did not get Detective Satori Already have the e-version, and the in-store version was $16 (it came with a bunch of neat trinkets in the package). A little too steep for the day's remaining budget.

woah, you got decked out with new touhou stuff. i've been reading suichouka, and it's pretty nice. it's a bit slow but i think it and detective satori being more gradual build-ups is a nice change of pace compared to some of the things with more isolated chapters like the fairy trio series and some of wild and horned hermit. maybe i'll make a new thread to talk about it properly also interested to hear what kind of trinkets the detective satori physical copy came with, i'm pretty sure merch directly associated with official touhou things is very rare i'm doing a bit better on schedule now, so when you're up to it feel free to post in the fight club thread to set something up spongelevator pink and blue is miyoi okuonda, a person who recklessly encourages excessive alcohol consumption. the youkai will get over it but by this point i'm very concerned for reimu, marisa, and youmu's livers suichouka is also being released online for free and being translated nearly the instant each chapter comes out by this incredible person who also translates gensou taisen
