danmaku dot jp is a site launched recently in preparation for the 25th anniversary, an event on october 10th which will include a livestream and a live concert, with some info and surprises on the stream. they've got a twitter and youtube too

at best? nintendo gave zun the keys to announce reimu for smash and then the pc98 remakes become real
at worst? well, it'll still be more interesting than indie live expo 2020
but who knows, it's just something to remember for when it happens

like with other recent things, it's being helped out with by "sponsor x", which i'm pretty sure is still unknown? maybe they'll reveal themselves here

I am not sure what's going on in the twitter but they posted yukkuri reimu like 6 times and also retweeted a 5 hours touhou video

hopefully not gonna end up like air reitaisai but there will be ZUN at least

sponsor x is revealed to be sensodyne toothpaste and a new game, Touhou Smile, comes out on the apple iphone 12

yeah, for touhou. i haven't verified it myself, but i heard someone say that it isn't exactly accurate, but if it gives them an excuse to release something cool, it's all good with me.

crazy that reimu is now probably older than most of the people i know, not that the ingame sprites make her look like it. and man, akyuu only has like five years left. that's fucked up

and when sponsor x was mentioned there was some kinda phone rhythm game displayed
chat was saying "DeNA" so I think that's the name of the company
a few people were saying it was a gacha rhythm game though I dunno if they were just messing around
unless the conversations had a lot to them I don't think there was much to see this time around so I would probably not recommend the full 150 minutes experience I shall also lose 1/8192 of my brain cells due to the sleep

touhou unreal mahjong: cool, i don't know anything about mahjong
luna nights on switch: doesn't hurt but even the best switch pro controller doesn't compare to a keyboard when it comes to 2d games
danmaku kagura: considering it took over danmaku dot jp this seems to be a pretty big thing to the sponsor x. i saw the リズム before the スマホ and was very excited, and was still a bit hopeful after that. i tried a game called cytus a couple months ago and it was pretty cool, no gacha or anything but this is not so lucky. on the gameplay side, notable characteristics of this guy is 7k with hallway (and thus nonlinear) note acceleration. makes sense to do this on a sideways tilted phone due to lack of vertical space but if it was run upright it could play some 4k overhead cleanly. that may be overdone because that's what stepmania and ddr are, but i think the 7k overhead thing is pretty similar to what the love live mobile rhythm game do. also gacha characters affect gameplay in a rhythm game. you win some you lose some, huh?
not to overly speak of this game that i probably won't even download but i notice right it has some pretty nice art with live2d, but the game is pretty awkward-looking as a whole. aside from the fact that there are many different artists so difference in artstyle between illustrations can be apparent, the gameplay noteskin and to an extent the ui as a whole seems rather aimless. the notes are just circles with flat colour, and while i'm not expecting an extravagant rainbow array of notes, they do have to be easily visible after all, there are some more subtle choices that can be done to give off a more touhou-like look or just somehow more interesting to look at. make 'em reimu's yin-yang orbs or maybe just that palette or something
maybe i only notice these things because i have been making a rhythm game recently and apologies for the big textblock

next is touhou lotus labyrinth r: the touhou mystery dungeon thing was popular and looked nice although i haven't played it and have no intention to. it's on steam with an english translation, but it got very expensive somehow and i'm not a fan of the pseudo-roguelikeness of the original mystery dungeon games. this is apparently a free update though so if you like the game? no downsides
and gensou shoujo taisen: for which i am not exactly clear on what they are announcing. i don't actually think i've got the time to check the whole stream to find out, but the series is already complete and was released as a compilation into a single game, right? well, it probably doesn't hurt. lazulum , you might want to check it out

zun's introduction at the start was rather funny, and he is a chill guy as always, dressed sharply in a casual way. a shame he didn't get to announce anything of his own, but maybe that's because tasofro is still taking their time on 17.5

and yeah i checked up on those DeNA guys, they look like they haven't been doing that much recently but if they're helping out with touhou stuff then it's probably fine if they had a <i>little</i> quarrel with the law a couple years back about attempting to run a monopoly but hey, they made the nintendo mobile games and owned myanimelist for a short period

Never thought about it but Reimu would be a good fit for Smash I think, bonus points for not swinging around a sword of some sort (as much of the roster does)

The rhythm game does have an impressive collection of artwork and music, but I can see what you mean about the UI. Maybe someday I'll give it a look but these days if I'm on public transit I'm either resting or studying haha

That was the most hyped a game announcement has made me in a while
Seems to just be an announcement that Sanbondo and Phoenixx will be officially publishing their works, expect them on consoles or maybe Steam.
Sanbondo will be publishing the full series as one game, wonder how the interface will look (the first game has a secret Sakuya story mode, for example). Maybe it will just be a collection. It will be one behemoth to get through though in any case haha.

I really do hope that they add some sort of new content though, even if just touching up some of the older animations or adding a few more pair dialogues.
