lol america big portions go with big size though yeah it's a massive piece of land and yet like half the population just lives in california, texas, new york, florida, or whatever other popular states well at least there's more space in kansas if you're fine with a tornado wiping out your house every now and then lol also some americans seem to not wear a mask only because they're told to wear one like when a teenager doesn't clean their room because mom says to I've had to go out way more than usual lately and most restaurants and stores around where I am right now require masks to enter and there's way more people wearing them as a result some people seem to care way more though I've seen in stores some people will move far away when you move through the same aisle while other people don't react at all it's a pretty curious thing honestly though I don't know enough about people individually or in groups so as of right now I can only recognize differences there yeah I remember back in january chemistry teacher was talking about coronavirus and everyone just ignored him because there was only like 30 cases in the US and now I guess it's gotten bad enough for america number 1 collective punishment's bad though I feel this is a very difficult case because coronavirus is probably not going away at this point and most actions have a lot of downsides to them as well also yeah there's constitution and such which makes it even more difficult lol I am glad I can just stay home and not have to try and deal with this issue because it would be a massive pain yeah I'm not sure how quarters would go because I'll be going from year-long classes in high school to semester-long classes in community college to possibly quarter-long classes if I'm at the uc davis calculus 1-3 appears to be in three quarters as opposed to the usual three semesters so I dunno if the classes are easier or if there's more in-depth stuff at higher levels I heard some k-12 school systems in other countries go deeper into subjects while k-12 schools here try to cover a wider area while not going into any one thing as much so maybe it'll be like that? hopefully or else I'd have to take 10 weeks human anatomy lol hopefully I can find home so I don't end up having to settle with a studio apartment in a run down city where I wake up to the cars honking lol yeah apples are real good though because it's an american-sized purchase I have to cut them up and freeze sometimes I'll find some weird usage like adding into japanese curry for achieving fourth dimensional flavor lol I dunno how the vegetable prices compare but america does have the affordable fruit unless it's dragon fruit which then you'll be paying $11.99 for one so it is very nice

I think that is quite unfortunate, although Japan has been slowly trending in that direction. Japan is roughly the size of California but has a population around 1/4 that of the US, and the third largest GDP in the world, behind only the giants of China and the USA itself. A big reason behind this is because you can go to just about any prefecture (47 if memory serves) and find industries, populations clusters, etc.
That's quite a common phenomenon, many will be reluctant to do something if told to.
It's the same here in Tokyo, people react differently, some don't mind, some are not wearing masks at all themselves, and some will try to get away from you as soon as possible. Although I do not believe I have seen a single place require that masks be worn by customers, only by staff. Just about every place offers hand sanitizers for use too.
Yeah I think that it is quite bad too, and lockdowns are not just an inconvenience either. Even though cases are increasing in Tokyo I doubt that the government will issue another declaration of emergency either. A lot of smaller businesses just barely made it through the last declaration, they probably wouldn't make it through another. Japan has seen some of the least economic damage throughout, that is in large part due to there being no lockdown.
I understand the arguments for collective punishment in this case, but I would respectfully disagree with them all things considered.
It's good that you do not have to go out much. Been different for me up till recently. Been going out quite a lot for work, for study, etc. Even took a train to a different prefecture on a few different occasions. I do not experience much fear though, as I have expressed before, I believe all things happen for a reason and so whatever happens there is a method to it.
Intensive classes certainly have their benefits, taking one at the moment and it's running me a tad ragged. Quite exhausted these days. However, I recently had to read a research paper and prepare a handout within an hour and a half, and the necessity of quick work pushed me into refining my note taking to be radically more efficient and more organized than before. An invaluable development that will be of lifelong assistance. "Necessity breeds innovation" as it goes. Just be careful about pushing yourself too much, the Bible tells of the necessity of rest quite extensively, I have found out the importance on more than one occasion.
Gotta travel if you want to find home. An old student of mine was once working at Gunkanjima (that famous "Battleship Island" where they film all of the post-apocalypse movies now) in the mineshafts a long long time ago, ended up in Austria and later back in Tokyo; he was the one that quite liked that phrase. UC probably has relationships with other universities across the world, explore what transfer programs (one semester) they have and see how you like the different places.
I've been to many places, Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, USA, Canada, etc. Many eye opening experiences, nothing quite like seeing other worlds and the people within them. It may seem overwhelming or anxiety-riddling at first, but I think anyone who has the chance to should.
Ahh, didn't think of that. That's something very different about the USA and Japan actually. Bulk shopping is quite uncommon in Japan, that's why Walmart struggles to remain profitable in Japan. Most shopping is with the next few days in mind.
Vegetables actually tend to be much cheaper in Japan. Much more of them are grown in Japan.
Ha, you think $11.99 is expensive for a fruit? You can find certain grapes for that much, Fuji apples are around $4 for an apple. Special watermelons go for about $30, if not more. These are special fruits though, there are cheaper alternatives thankfully.

is there a lot of variety in those places because I heard over here you have to be in certain locations to do some jobs and such it's not a short list of places but probably they aren't gonna want no translators in oklahoma or whatever and all oh yeah I saw a sign on some store saying the county requires places to refuse service to anyone not wearing a mask or something like that so I think some businesses are just following that while others would have done so already most offer hand sanitizer as well though collective punishment/lockdown I really wouldn't even want to take a side on because it's pretty varied based on situation as well as being difficult as a whole encouraging people to stay home and requiring a mask seems like it wouldn't be as bad as requiring all restaurants close down or whatever so businesses aren't hurt too much it sucks you had to go out that much lol it suddenly becomes very tiring when there's all these things that need to be done to prepare just to go outside intensive classes are nice if they're done well but I had to do summer government in a month and they literally just gave us the generic online class where every quiz+test and the final were multiple choice so I basically just skimmed the online articles and then got like 95% in the class sounds very difficult but rewarding when the school does not do that it may be strange question but do you have note taking tips I have never been in any difficult classes so I never even bothered learning how to make notes other than "uuh write down that thingy that's highlighted right there" and you actually have to do that stuff and make it good so if you have tips for me please I must have so I do not get demolished once I actually need to do notes yeah I think both the community college and both UCs have an international study program though I do not have the moneys and I don't think they do it free also they limit the number of classes I can take so I could probably only do it after I transfer but maybe I will if I acquire a money many friends are going to uc davis and also want to go to japan so that actually gives good opportunity for that lol oh yeah americans love the costco where you can buy 10 pounds of potatoes at once or a box which contains 20 packs of gum or four jars of spaghetti sauce I'd like to be somewhere where I can have 5 pound of liver in the freezer and five jars of peanut butter but also be able to buy just one onion at a time lol cheap vegetables sounds good though I would miss my fruits fruits seem to be cheaper than vegetables here for some reason so I got used to eating 6 tangerines in place of a broccolis or whatever lol watermelons in japan probably cost as much as the entire grocery list I would not be surprised if there was one of those fancy rent-a-thing services for watermelons rent this watermelon to impress guests but no you can't eat it premium fruits sounds pretty cool though lol like when they have the fancy four white strawberries in a box one day maybe they genetically engineer a perfectly triangular strawberry

Yeah that's true you do have to be in certain places to do various jobs. A lot of big companies based in Tokyo send lower ranked staff out into different branches around the country as well. A good friend of mine got stationed way up north in Sendai.
Fukushima is trying to create new jobs so they created the big fancy new tech institute over there to develop a tech sector (Shibuya is the big tech sector in Japan). Out in the country there are a lot of service jobs too, fishing-related industries in places such as Ishikawa. I knew a man once who was a teacher at a specialist school for secondary schooling for students with developmental disorders in Mie prefecture, etc.
Japan also still has a lot of manufacturing, a lot of which is done in places outside of Tokyo.
That's fair, situations and ideal responses can very a great deal from context to context.
It's not a strange question at all. For note taking it depends if you are taking notes from readings or from lectures. If the latter, develop your own short hand notation and organization schemes so you can take notes efficiently and also not have to recompile everything on the account of disorganization.
If you are creating notes from materials (i.e., with time flexibility) try to first type out a handout for the material as if you were going to share it with your classmates (maybe even organize to do this if you can find classmates who are interested in doing this). Go through the materials within an hour, think about how you would present the main information to your classmates. So for a research paper first read the abstract and then go into the core methodology only as much as needed, then move onto discussion/results. If in the last segment there's something more needed about the methodology to understand, then you know what to look for and reading with an objective in my experience is more efficient and leads to better understanding too.
After a handout is finished I compile everything into paper-based notes where I have a very developed personal notation and organization scheme (many iterations over time). Sometimes when organizing information I will find an error or something more that can be added -- it's almost a sort of paper revision in that sense. The product is a well developed and easily navigable physical note that can always be returned to. Great especially for research papers so you can flip back and check the findings, or just the methodology, etc. Also, use papers that can be taken in and out of a spiral, not sure what those are called, but do not use the bound page notebooks. I have many notes that are tedious to access in those when they need not be. These should only be used for research conducted in something such as electric engineering where being able to see if a page was torn out is very important for investigating the process that led to an outcome.
My classes are primarily difficult for workload. The content can be very difficult to, but for me that is not so much the case.
I know they do scholarships for internships, maybe for study abroad there are some arrangements. Look into scholarships immediately, trust me, you're good enough for them. I lacked confidence when I was a little younger and I could have saved a lot of money through scholarships. In the end I started going for them and they really are not difficult to get. If you can go with friends abroad I think that is great, you can help each other out and tag around too.
Yeah these special watermelons do, I've had them explained to me before but I cannot remember. These special watermelons are not particularly big either, although they do look a tad beautiful. Japanese are surprised by the size of American watermelons though haha.

I found this thread and well I wanted to share what was my entry into the series.
I was just browsing twitter (which is smthing i don't use anymore) and I came across art of Ran Yakumo. I love kitsune characters, smthing about them I just love (ironic coming from the guy that loves cats). So I did some research and I found out she was from Touhou. I've been known of Touhou before this discovery but never gave a thought to play the games since all I thought was that it was just comprised of fan games (I had 1 braincell then) and I thought the lore was huge and complex (but then I started playing the games and I was like "Oh wait, it doesn't really matter")
So finally I decided to take a shot at Touhou, snagged myself EoSD and played. And from the moment foward, I was a fan.... even though I'm ass at the games even to this day.
This all happened I wanna say around June of 2020
