the minor stuff is usually just a disc ZUN tossed into the back of the book
somehow these crusty discs end up having some of the best tracks like the one in grimoire of marisa or silent sinner in blue
no story or anything though it's just a few tracks each time
honestly I'm not sure what to think of the original DiPP other than "something that could have been" because of how different it was to everything else ZUN's made
it's early gensokyo and has that kinda "oriental" feeling to it while also involving humans quite a bit more than usual
I suppose quite different from what most people say "grimsokyo" is though
other than the whole "dying" part, of course
but in general I guess that's why I actually like DiPP
(also because the two throwaway illustrations are some of my favorite ZUN designs for some reason)
the little notes is kinda a pain yeah though I usually just look around for a summary before reading it and then go through it
and afterwards look for discussions people had of it like 10 years ago on dying websites to get a good idea of what went on and what it means
I can then confidently keep this knowledge in my mind, untouched, for eternity
forbidden scrollery was
kinda similar in that it showed more about humans in gensokyo (specifically the human village) and the strange relationship between humans and youkai where youkai can't live without humans since the fear of youkai is what allows them to exist
and a whole human-youkai balance political thing going on in there (it can also explain some earlier things like why yukari gaps in humans from outside to feed the vampires/whoever needs it, why byak's wishes for youkai and humans to live in harmony is thought of as a dumb idea/ straight up harmful, and so on)
I'm not great at explaining it but forbidden scrollery is probably the closest to DiPP we've gotten (though not very close)
I didn't read it until I had been doing 2hustuffs for over a year and by the time I got to it I knew so much of what was happening/going to happen and the themes already that I couldn't even form an opinion on it so I would recommend you check it out
