My terrible experiences with the Touhou games have tainted my view of the rest of the "franchise". Though I haven't yet gotten to reading the manga I think I can't bring myself to do so because of the bad experiences clouding my mind. The really bad part is that it is something I want to like, because its music is still enjoyable and I still use Touhou characters as avatars anywhere possible. With that said, what could I possibly do to erase those bad memories and start enjoying Touhou again? If nothing productive comes out of this I'm leaving this forum after only one month, since the whole point of it would be to discuss something I lost the taste for.

I think you've pretty much stated your solution. There's more to Touhou than just the games. The games and manga are two separate things; you needn't worry about one reminding you of the other (with the exception of Fairy Wars, which is directly tied to the Touhou Sangetsusei manga). There's a lot of fun stuff the fandom has come up with, as well, outside of the games. There is plenty out there, you just have to be willing to look into it.
