sad that most people who view posts like this one actually won't comment or anything...

Nah, I'm here. Was gone for a good while, but I am here now at least. Nice to see a post, figured there'd be nothing/no one left.

If there are two or more with Touhou in their heart, then we can always bring life back into it!
...I am using way to many exclamations today lol.
We just gotta find ways to keep the momentum going and with enough time and patience others will follow.
I still have to go look through the posts of long days past, but maybe we can see what caused the... I guess 'decline' if you will and do our best to remedy it.
For instance, we can consider the common things that bring people into the series and keep them in and expand on that.

HUGE RANT WARNING
It's just that forums started becoming unpopular due to the emergence of social medias in the early 2010s and ultimately died as many users moved over to mainstream social network apps like Reddit and Twitter. The Internet just doesn't feel the same anymore, it has become too centralized and corporatized and its return is highly unlikely unless every social media app just kills itself due to bad management. Youtube has been screwing itself over for years, they removed key features for no reasons (annotations, video responses, visible dislikes and many more), enshittified their UI and now you can't use it without getting 1000000 ads a day, Twitter is run by a fucking kid stuck inside an adult's body, reddit is turning on its users, instagram is boring, Facebook is only used by old people, and Tiktok is just a vine rip-off that ruins attention span. It's fucking pointless at this point, but as long as people like you keep forums alive, the glory days of the web will still live on
EDIT: let's not forget the fuckton of small websites or links that got taken down or deleted for shit reasons, maybe even lost forever

Not a fan of instant messengers these days given my schedule. I like to take on a few posts over the course of a few weeks. Sometimes I need to bow out for a bit but I like to return and jump back in, so to speak. Yeah, YouTube has seen better days. They've messed with the algorithms so much it is actually hard to find what you are searching for. I find the best way is to look for user created playlists. I like social media to keep in touch with people I personally know, but for hobby-related and anon discussions like these? I agree, forums were a nice time in their prime.

The fact that forums are pretty much dead makes me very sad. Web 2.0 is dead, creativity doesn't matter, only what big corpos think we need does I really need to stop using my phone so much...i fucking miss being 12...

yeah modern day internet seems to have been utterly demolished since the only place that has videos over 30 seconds long is youtube and the only place with instant messaging is discord and the only place with a forum-like structure is reddit but all of those sites are constantly changing the UI and removing features for unknown reasons heard youtube is rolling out a new UI that appears to be hostile to human lifeforms and particularly atrocious and unusable too www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bDHcX-TyJ4less than an hour ago dondon revealed radiant dawn LTC but that's probably the only modern youtube thing I'd have interest in seeing though so honestly UI changes aren't as much of an issue anymore I get why everything became a very small cluster of sites since a lot of people straight up don't care enough to log in to more than a single website and keeping track of like ten forum logins would be a massive pain and since there's probably 100x as many people on the internet these days you can't really have everything scattered and more difficult to find but man is it really necessary for me to make a discord account and join a doujin music server and using discord's broken search bar and hopefully not accidentally message to get what used to be going to a website and clicking the download button at least it aint as bad as private trackers but eh I don't get the point outside of this forum I used to only lurk so at least it's pretty easy for me to return to that except the only places that are really worth the time are a decade old and also happen to not be up anymore well that or singular threads or discussions within threads on sites that are otherwise generally mediocre or bad and it turns into needles in haystacks oh and pixiv did something shitty a few years back so all the japanese artists moved to twitter except elon musk bought it and named it X after his child xae xuirk 76-11 or whatever so now they're all leaving or getting nuked and the AI is getting better and better so now it's hard to distinguish these days I just play video gaem probably sounding very cynical or like a doomposter or whatever already but modern day ones are also subpar (persona 3 got a remake which seems pretty not high effort and fatlus lied to the fans again and cut out stuff to sell as $30 dlc again yet people are actually defending this these days meanwhile 6-7 years ago almost everyone spoke out against how bad of a practice that was) so you gotta go play uhhhhhhh I dunno honestly stuff from a decade ago or more is still pretty neat I looked at hitman codename 47 and it seems pretty funny I heard the modern day series sells gutted games and then $80 of dlc to get the full experience (though that still looks pretty good I'll get to it eventually once the price drops to 5 dolar) and yeah modern day games are not the same with the dlc and the niches discarded for wider appeal probably you've heard all of what I've said 999999 times elsewhere already but eh this topic was always a bit sad to me I remember being 9 and playing papa's pancakeria and looking at the funny sparta remixes where 1m views felt like the whole world was watching alongside you and hearing about a ton of forums and their hijinks and cultures and it seems that just isn't coming back I got hope one day something spectacular will happen though and hopefully we are all there to see it

thanks everyone for replying i've never lived that era of old internet but i still feel an awkward sensation of nostalgia looking back at these things from before 2010. things are really changing, but having to say goodbye to forums makes me really sad. i really, REALLY wished i was alive on the origins of the internet, that explains why i love year 2000 internet aesthetic/vibe, but i feel these things are only becoming dust as time passes. i don't have (if you consider youtube one) social medias. it's just so boring, the tons of information that your brain need to absorb are ridiculous, and people just seems to be getting really annoying over time, you know? it's just... sad, sad that we might just give up things that have been part of the lives of millions of people, only because "that's not what current media wants to do". but i also believe that things have their time to exist. i really hope the internet can improve a lot of things, despite of it load of problems
