Heya, here I am now, I go by Miku, nice to meet you all. I've been visiting this forum over and over again for around a year and a half now and I'm glad to see that it has come back to life. So, after some consideration, I've joined this forum now, so once again, here I am now. I'm not sure if there's much to say about me, I like oldschool / nostalgic things, like this forum for example, I also enjoy programming.

hello there I trust you have seen many of the uuh strange antics within present day forum over that time
appearance wise this is the crustiest not-dead touhou forum with remnants of 2009 not to say that is a bad thing though if you wish for it to feel even older the original theme is an option anyway as the fastest by coincidence I welcome you within 8 minutes of post good day

miku hello im a big fan of all of your songs welcome to the forums
didn't know we had lurkers, i wonder if there are any more? thanks for sticking around anyway despite the partial inactivity. (i should probably go and respond to some posts now). "you're right, 2009 internet is great" i say, despite having only been 7 at the time
i am terrified by the concept of another programmer having looked at my posts where i talk about programming in what i understand is generally regarded as baby gamemaker mode. what kinda stuff do you work in/with?
now i will stop snoozing and make some posts

"you're right, 2009 internet is great" i say, despite having only been 7 at the time what kinda stuff do you work in/with? Yeah, 2009 internet feels really nostalgic and looks more awesome than anything else that you see these days. I really dislike the oversimplified and bland styles. For some reason I also prefer lower resolutions than higher ones, probably because it feels nostalgic to me, I'll never go above 1920x1080 resolutions as those are completely fine to me, if I had a display where lower resolutions look good on it, I would probably end up using it. I work in C and C++, however I also know how to use Java and I used to also work in Python. At the moment, one of my probably biggest projects is making a game engine from the ground up in C. Besides that I also like to use operating systems that are not Windows, for example, I am currently daily-driving FreeBSD on my laptop.

welcome to the antiantiskeuomorphism club, population rising by the day while the colours the modern web offers you shrinks just as fast. only reason i can stand discord and windows as long as i do is by modding em to bring back the good ol gloss and drop shadows one thing that is surprisingly cool is a 4:3 monitor, i've got one thats like 1200x1600 and it makes older stuff look really nice when i decide to pull it out. i mostly just end up using it for 4:3 games like touhou though
that's a rad lineup of code. i just do gamemaker, javascript, and a bit of lua, none of which i've used professionally. i had a semester on c++ but it didn't end up beating out the stuff i was used to for what i needed it to do. c game engine seems pretty tough, but i bet it'll pay out in its performance and ease of porting. not actually heard of freebsd before, and as with most linux distros that aren't pure terminal, it seems pretty cool. although apparently this guy isn't linux? first time i've actually heard of a non-windows non-mac that isn't.

Yeah, a 4:3 monitor is pretty cool, although I've never had or used one before.
Again, yeah, the C game engine is gonna be quite tough, but it'll pay out in its performance. I am also working on an API for Lua, so that there's gonna be modding support.
FreeBSD is quite niche I suppose, however you actually end up using or seeing it everywhere, it's being used for Netflix, PlayStation 4 and 5 and pretty much the whole line-up of Apple devices running iOS or macOS. It's quite similar to Linux, however it's not related to it at all, but you can enable compatibility for Linux binaries, so FreeBSD also turns out to be a viable option for a good operating system, however there's some limitations on it of course, for example Steam doesn't work at all or only with workarounds and Discord might work with the Linux binary compatibility, otherwise you'll have to use a browser. Webgames work like a charm since those are more so related to the browser you're using and not the operating system. If you want to play games in, I guess, a more reliable or easier manner, you should go with Linux.

Welcome to the forum, mate. Good to have more joining in.
I know what you mean, I'm a bit of an anachronism myself. There's something about forums that's been lost. Having the screen name, checking in every so often to see what conversations have transpired in the meantime. Quite nice.
Programming is a great skill to have these days, that's pretty cool

Yeah, I've always been interested in programming, it's an awesome and interesting skill, because of the many things you can do with it.
Mind telling me a bit about yourself? I'm curious.

I'll bet, always amazing what people come up with and I imagine there's much more beneath the surface.
Don't mind at all. Been on this forum a long time, started lurking around 2010 and joined in 2012. Been into Touhou for a long time and I never really got much into Reddits, Discords, etc.
I'm a private high school teacher in Tokyo, Japan. I also do a lot of other side jobs and extracurriculars so I can't be as active as I'd like to be these days.
I look forward to seeing your around

I'm checking in here quite often, so yeah, I'll respond to or notice things quite quickly.
Well that's quite interesting in my opinion. How's life as a teacher and did you move to Japan or did you grow up there?

Wish I could match your speed haha. Feel a bit bad getting back to you so late.
Very busy but I try to do my best for my students so I make it more busy than it could be. Not to boast or anything, my coworkers are good folk as well who do their best. I teach English, history, economics, and metacognition. It's a great job all things considered, when plans come together and you successfully impart knowledge onto others, quite a good feeling.
I came from abroad, when I first came to this forum I had my home set to "Oceania" and talked a bit about where I was from. Long time ago, I often forget about it (not that it was bad). Nice memories but I was a very different person back then. Been in Japan for the last 1/4 of my life, can't imagine life anywhere else at this point.

Don't feel bad about being not that fast, it's fine.
That's a good variety of things you're teaching others, I've never heard about metacognition before, what's that? You can definitely be proud of what you're doing, I bet you're doing a very good job.

Appreciate it and very kind of you to say.
We have a saying in the field, "your first year of teaching is all bad teaching" haha. Just trying to make it as not bad as possible.

No problem, you're welcome.
I didn't expect that to be a thing but I guess that experience just makes you a better teacher. You got a cool job honestly.
