Cheating Detective Satori Discussion: Carpet corner (Read 1,612 times)

So, I wasn't sure exactly which thread to post this in, but I wanted to host a bit of an open discussion on the latest chapters of 東方智霊奇伝　反則探偵さとり (Cheating Detective Satori). It's my personal favorite Touhou manga, yet I've never been able to find a place to discuss it, since no one else seems interested or nearly as invested as I am in Cheating Detective Satori. After reading the latest chapter, my mind has been in a constant restless state in which I can rarely think about anything besides what will happen next in CDS. I've tried to formulate some ideas of what the vengeful spirit may do next based on (HAHA, based,) the actions we've seen it take thus far, but I wanted to hear others opinions. What do you think will happen to Marisa? I worry about her so much I find it difficult to sleep at night. Mostly, I will stay awake and toss and turn like some sort of insomniac, but in reality I don't have sleep issues, I'm just worried about Marisa. What do you think will happen? Even if you're unsure of what will happen, talking about some theories may put my mind a little more at ease. Also, what is this tense friction between Yukari and Satori, and where does it come from? I worry about their relationship and, if theoretically they were to have to work together in the future, things might not go down so smoothly.





But, of all the conflict within the group, the thing that's made me worry the most is Satori's seemingly apathetic stance towards the mystery. I mean, she calls herself a detective, but if it were me, whom I did call myself a detective, I would probably be working a bit harder on the case. Is Satori not an empathetic person? Does she really not care what happens to Marisa and the vengeful spirit? Mostly, I'm interested, but also incredibly worried. I hope nothing's wrong with Satori. I always took her to be a detective that cares a bit more about the cases she follows, but that doesn't seem to be the case right now, and I'm kind of rethinking about what she might do, or, lack of things she will do to help Marisa. Anyway, open discussion below if you have any ideas. Again, it would really help me get rid of this sleep deprivation that's come from my stress about these matters in CDS. Also, my favorite Touhou manga is in fact Cheating Detective Satori, even though it is no where near finished.

i forget where, but once i read that vengeful spirits are a bigger threat to youkai, because much of their whole existence, being spiritual, are at threat of being overwritten or destroyed by vengeful spirits, if they are strong. marisa is biological, so she is probably going to be fine, not to mention she is one of the protagonists
next chapter is in a couple days so i hope it will ease your concerns

cheating detective satori is pretty cool, very distinctive artstyle and flandre shows up for the first time in over a decade. i don't actually know if it's sold anywhere physically, but the chapters are released individually online for free once a month

Cool, didn't know chapters go up for free. That's neat. Will give it a look when next able.

I see some physical listings on Rakuten so they do sell volumes but I'll have to sort that out at later time. Schedule is not good right now

Cool to hear about Flandre. Touhou had a rich cast of characters that don't reappear at all. Nice to see it when it happens

i didn't intend to make a post when it did but due to its contents i thought it was necessary

there is chen in what i must assume is yakumo family fashion by this point considering all three share a consistent style with the thing going down the center and white dress

- vengeful spirit

- doesn't like youkai

    - mima is not a youkai and formerly employed only a human (marisa)

- especially doesn't like the hakurei shrine

    - classic mima move

- "revenge on gensokyo" potential motive

    - mima is not living in gensokyo (hell in htrp, makai in soew)

    - until she started hanging out more after those games

        - and basically then somebody sealed her in hell or something because they thought she was suspicious or didn't want mima to be good friends with reimu through marisa (lookin at yukari)

        - and then she got mad

edit also: - marisa was absolutely unaffected by the vengeful spirit and while the symptoms the youkai had wouldn't have surfaced from a human vengeful spirits can still be dangerous to them but no damage to ms. kirisame at all. its almost like... hm... the vengeful spirit did not want to harm marisa? no way right unless it was MIMA

and thats why mima is in the new touhou. many people have said it before but this deduction is truly flawless. zun i know you're reading this tell me im right

I have ebeen reading it though honestly I do not know what's going on
quite nice that flandre and koish show up again though otherwise I really do not know what they mean at all past the first case
I know mima's ghost tail might taste like the this


though otherwise I basically just know she was either a boss or playable in the touhou number 3 and lived around the hakurei shrine doing some ghost things
yeah I should probably read the wiki and play the game

it is kinda unusual compared to a lot of touhou manga so yeah it is a bit confusing. flandre and koumakan pals are probably not going to be showing up again because they don't have a direct relation to the case but satori is doing some heavy lifting the whole way through i think
mima is a boss in touhou 1, the main antagonist of touhou 2, one of the many playable in touhou 3, and one of the four playable in touhou 5, and i think she appeared on one album cover once after that but that's all
at some point everybody decided they wanted her back because she is cool and every time something new happens any traces of potential mima are scoured for with increasingly desperate conclusions. this time it's real though. i promise

i, too, would want revenge on the world if half of my body was composed of marshmallow cream. gensokyo is a difficult place, huh?

I was finally able to purchase the manga, I had a coupon that got me $5 off
I hope to read a bit of it before long

a physical edition sounds cool, the artstyle seems like it would be nice on a shelf. have fun with the read, say something if you've got a theory to the culprit. even if it's conjecture, solving a crime before the book tells you is always nice

ok wait so the first case is done and now the second one is related right
I kinda skimmed second time but it had the spirit thing still
also so sakuya got controlled by the spirit but then with marisa it just possessed her and nothing happened
I forgot already but was it that the spirit just chose not to do anything with marisa but possessed her anyway idk I will just wait until next chapter release

I'm only a few pages in so it's much to early to make a guess, but I'll gladly post my predictions here. I think that will be fun.
