I'm going on a field trip to Devon this week as part of my geology* degree, and I depart tomorrow morning, so I'll see you all next weekend! *Technically, it's planetary science, but geology's an important part of that and it's a geology field trip. If you tell people you're going on a planetary science field trip they think you're in Ms. Frizzle's class

I'm back! :3 It was fun but very stressful and tiring. I'm so glad to be back! And I didn't know you did geology, Mr Inaba!

Yes, it was loads of fun! But it was very stressful too. Very little privacy in the accomodation, no internet connection, crappy weather and long working hours. I had some fun times but I'm really glad to be back home... hoping if I bring more stuff (and my laptop!) next time it'll be more enjoyable. :3 Ahh, I see! What country are you from? We have a Year 13 here but we'd tend to call college university and the last two years of school college, so...

Lol! It sounds exactly like my trip! (minus the bad weather) What did you study there? We had to study the effects glaciers had on terrain >.<

Three major things, there was a folded, metamorphosed set of Devonian sediments (hence the name : and some Permo-Triassic sandstone/conglomerate on top of it in places, as well as a Carboniferous granite batholith. Everything we saw was basically either the folded Devonian stuff, the Permo-Triassic sediments or the granite (or Palaeogene clay weathered from the feldspars.) We had to make a map (I hate geological mapping with a passion D:), keep a notebook with sketches and observations and do a graphic log (recording what was found in each layer at a certain depth.) I love the subject but the whole fieldwork experience is just a pain >< I could never be a field geologist, I'd much prefer to work in a comfy lab with sensible work hours and a nearby internet connection... Also, I see! You'll get much better weather than us though and you have fewer people, I guess that means less to see and do but I bet crowds and queueing aren't as bad as they are over here!

Sounds like you had an interesting time. I know I would never have the patience for doing any fieldwork, either. It's always good to get the experience with it, though! Got any pictures to share? :3
